Interesting concept.
Let me first state, before going on... it is now 3:30am. I'm tired... if you get some obscure word right in the middle of a phrase: I'm -HULA HOOP- Tired...erm..
Let me Second state, before going on... NS has been the best gaming experience of my life. This team has pulled off what many full-fledged game companies cannot. Good Job. And you have a ton to work with! Can you imagine the NS we'll have in the future? maybe...for UT2k3 or something? wow... even more motivation to get a new comp :-p
Okay.. Balance...
It's Balanced. Done. I said it.
This is one of the most well-balanced games I have ever played (GAMES, not mods. out of all GAMES). Period.
Marines: Good commander, good marines: Nearly unstoppable.
Aliens: Intelligent Gorges, intelligent skulks: Nearly unstoppable.
Ever have one of those games? If you have: You know, as well as I, that this game is balanced. It is just a stroke of luck: A stray pistol bullet, a well-placed shot of the WELDER... an Acid spit from the gorge, a skulk taking on 3 HA HMGs -- that win games like that...
"The Fades are too overpowered!" -- Overpowered? Ever kill a fade with a knife? ^_^
I once took a HIVE. by myself. Fully established. sure... HA, HMG...but very little health, low ammo...
3 fades, a constant stream of skulks spawning from the hive... the occasional gorge... and I still got it. Be agressive. And LMGs decimate Fades. Medium range, crosshairs on fade = Death to Fade. I'm serious. I've seen from both sides.
"Onos have far too many HP!" -- If the aliens have 3 hives, you aren't playing too well. Thats all I can really say... Onos aren't that hard to take down really... but for having ALL THREE HIVES, I would HOPE aliens could have some kickass weapon.... thats like an alien player saying 'Marines with all upgrades, HA, and HMG are too tough!'... they are...thats the POINT of having EVERYTHING. Duh. Onos is the Alien's way of saying 'You guys blew it. 3 hives. Ours. Now f34r our Elephant-Bull-thingies'.
"Skulks are too tough to kill!" -- I kill them frequently with the knife. Seriously. rather simple too. Oh, want a headstart on them? Watch where you're friggin' GOING! Look behind you, on the ceiling... don't run into a room because a resource node is there! That makes it MORE dangerous!! GEEZ!!
"Marines are too overpowered!" -- See 'Onos have far too many HP!'...they ARE overpowered...when they have every upgrade available... thats kinda the point...
...uhm...yeah...I hope I made my point...
oh...one thing...
Make it so you can't switch teams or something... I see a growing number of people switching teams because they're losing or whatnot... even if they COULD leave the server and come back, some people are too lazy (Ahem...) anyway.
Er... two things, I guess..
Also: Make it so you can have maybe... a choice between "LMG Marine (LMG, Pistol, Knife)" and "Pistol Marine (Duel Pistols, Knife)". I'm a lover of the pistol, and would love to drop the LMG (great weapon, but pistol rules) for a second, akimbo version...
You could change the maps so on the "Marine" doorway... have like... two doorways within... a "LMG" and "Akimbo Pistol"...that'd rule.

Oh my god, it felt so much better to hear how great you are at NS...
the problem with saying that is balanced is that if the marines play their cards right, they can have all those upgrades while only controlling one hive. In a supposedly balanced game. Onos are for ending the game, HMG/HA marines don't always mean the unavoidable end for the aliens.

marines NOR aliens are overpowered...
the only reason is beacuse marines are heavily dependent on the commander... and if the commander sucks.,. then the team will basically suck...
alien is jus easier ot play... beuacse each player can build... each can kill.. and it jus needs teamwork...

each team is good... forexample.. on the serve ri play... [TW]HLADS... used to have good ping... occasionally does <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo--> haha ... welli love the servers.. ppl are friendly and ive got to know a few... well nywayz.... they play 2 maps per rotate.. and ive seen aliens and marines each win once.. which means each team is balanced <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo--> hehhe
