<div class="IPBDescription">When the time comes let me know</div>Development staff,
I know that the time is not up yet for thinking about advertisement. However, I do have a few ideas as far as to generate quite a bit of capitol from the support of your loyal players which would be greatly useful when it comes time for your advertisement campaign. I know that the most cost effective method is to give exclusive beta wrights to a hosting company such as Filefront / Fileplanet in which you can get a few days 1/8-1/10 banner rotation free. However in order to hit other markets which don't only appeal to file hosting companies such as gaming review websites and listing websites. I have a few connections with Ziff Davis (1up,filefront,ign,etc), Blind Ferret (Ctrl+alt+del,explosm,lfg,etc), MMORPG.com (I am aware that NS2 is not a MMORPG but surveys show 8/10 mmorpg players also play FPS/RTS as well.), and many others. Since I currently do business with them under the company I work for I am more than willing to help with NS2 on my non office times to help get NS2 out there and get as many players as possible.
Companies such as those do not do cross advertisement usually unless its an exclusive to them or there is some event which draws their users to you as well as making their viewers glad that they use their website services. Which in the negotiation process is pretty hard to do unless your giving away computers / video cards / or something of that nature. Which usually costs more than the CPM or CPC that you would pay for normal banner rotation fees for that time period.
What I want to help with is gathering capitol over this developmental time which is basically funded by your supporters at no cost to them but supplies you with a nice chunk of change you can use to put out a decent advertisement campaign with little or no cost at all. Thus my post is to inform you that even though there is no time put into advertisement currently, you can still do things to prepare for it so that it is of low/no cost to you.
Just my 2 cents and attempt to help. I owe you guys big time. Believe it or not I met my wife through NS. I moved from Hawaii to California to meet her and we hit it off. Happily married now for 3 years. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink-fix.gif" /> Thanks guys.

That is nice;
I know of a couple from Australia that met over NS, and they had a long distance relationship for a long time, then finally met each other and yada yada. I haven't heard from either in a while, but i know they were happy together!
However, i think this is a bit off topic, down to business;
Those are some great ideas hiloboys, i think you should personally contact someone from the team if you really think you could make something good happen.
I think as a community though, we really could advertise NS a lot. There are many ways we could do it;
- Post stories on online news sites (ie. digg.com)
- Keep links in your avatars
- Tell all your friends!
- Talk the game up to people on other games!
- Make posters and put them around your nearest city!
Its just persistence, if everyone here could successfully tell twenty people, and get a few interested enough to buy it, thatd be a huge success!
How long ago did you start this site? I've never heard of it and it looks pretty low on activity...
I started it in 06. Got a bunch of users, server crashed, lost users, not all came back.
Well good luck. I hope you can get your user base back up, then draw tons of people to NS2 . :-D

Go sweden go, we have a whole bunch of 1.8% to unknownworlds.com !!!
If you have a decent number of people, and they release a great game to those people - it will do fine.
It may not achieve high initial sales - but its an exponential thing, and as it catches on it will quickly shoot up.
These guys are already in favor with a lot of people in the right places - I know quite a few gaming mags that are fans of NS and will undoubtedly do SOME kind of PR when NS2 is released. Steam (more-so Valve) have shown NS support, and will likely continue to do so on NS2's release. With just those two things, they're going to hit their target market hard. Add in their cult-like fan base here that is working hard on indie/guerrilla/viral marketing, and they've got everything they need.
Basically, all they really need to worry about is putting out an awesome game, which I know they are doing. Everything else is taken care of :)

Wow, more 'Nucks than Yanks. I feel so proud, heh.
While word of mouth is nice in theory, something online/in the streets is really needed to hit the numbers we'd all like. What it really comes down to is, unfortunately, how new player friendly it is. Halo, to me, is an awful shooter. But it's so easy to play Multiplayer that, well, look at it now. (I can't believe I used Halo in a favourable way... sigh).
Anyways, what we need to do is, as said above, get fileplanet or something to do an exclusive. Sucks for those of us without it, but I wouldn't mind to help out the game.
I do bug everyone at work (I work in the games industry in Vancouver) constantly about the game. May have a few converts.
Australia is third? wow!
Word of mouth and Steam News page adverts are good ways to get advertisement...
