I dont think this has been suggested. Since the game is most likely going to make its way onto Steam in the future, it would be awesome if there were custom Steam interfaces using an NS2 theme. I know the Source mod: Insurgency, has taken advantage of this.
I would definately like to see infestation on my Steam client, or some sort of T.S.A. theme.
What do you guys think?

Not a bad suggestion, though.
I would love a NS2 theme for steam, mainly because I'm not a fan of their color scheme.
However, I am 99.9% certain they will not work with the current version of steam
Most of the files for the steam skin appear to be .tga files. If you don't mind spending a few hours you could make a simple skin by replacing the images with something NS.
I think I'll look into it...

Twas what I was going to look at doing :)
Just if there is a guide of "this area does this" kind of thing...
I'll poke and play I guess. >.<

I used these skins a long time ago and they were awesome! Would be great to see a rework of these for the new Steam interface.

If I get some time I may download some old skins, see if anything from them is useful. If possible I would like to add some infestation somewhere. I may make this public in the future, no such plans currently.

Hopefully I have time to play with it some more this week :).
And the infestation needs some fine-tuning there...
I'll upload a little epic I was working on in a few minutes, maybe you can include it somewhere... I do like the NSII logo in there though.

I like the second one better myself, I can clean up the edging if you want but on a dark background you don't even notice it.

Ya I was mostly just playing with the scheme to see what things do. The infestation was also a quick nd dirty job. By thje same token though I am having a hard time finding graphics to use.
My first thought on seeing it was "meh, it just looks like infestation placed on a regular steam skin". My second thought was "you know, instead of doing it like the old skin (110% marine or alien themed), making it themed like one of the space stations (stamped metal, rivets, etc) with an infestation overlay, would look really awesome".
I lack any skill in this stuff my self, but I have seen a few decent tuts on how to make metal tiles (for mapping( that would look rather good as a base background (so long as it wasn't just all the same).
Just make the Friends TSA logo the same colour as the other buttons and I'm sold!

Oh it is, that's just the mouseover effect :). Playing with some metal textures now to see what it looks like.
This is the last "Clean" version I worked on. Will play with more texturing for backgrounds, but I think that may end up being too busy, will post if I make something I am happy with.

Also, I agree, the light gray/ dark gray contrast is hard to read, try light blue instead.
Link me for the .zip
Best Regards,
I was going to use some textures from NS1 but I ended up going with flat textures and just filled them with a gradient. Things with detail like the welder wouldn't go well with this scheme. Maybe I could make it work, but for now I will leave it as is. I imagine once we have more NS2 media I will make a much better skin :) (Probably after release).
Here is a screenie of the latest version. I will probably release this, although there are still things I couldn't figure out how to do. I guess I will just update the skin I figure that out.
