Updatability of the art assets

Hey UWE,
Will we be able to swap out art assets (such as game models) for custom art? This question popped in my head after reading a certain locked thread because it seems that there are certainly differing opinions on how some characters should look, and if people are able to use their own custom art they'd be able to have characters look the way they want them to. I get the feeling this will be a big no-no but I'd like to hear what your alls stance on the subject is.

I really enjoyed changing a lot of the NS1 models when I first got into it, It would be cool if perhaps UWE allowed community members to make some contributions and perhaps made a few different sets of available models for people to use that servers allowed. Or even have an option for servers which forces the standard assets to be used, so that users don't have to swap out folders if they'd like to play comp etc.

This isn't really an issue in NS1/any other game.. Why would it suddenly become an issue in NS2?
Actually this was a fair bit of an issue, as the above image illustrated. If a game is designed to be dark, and you replaced all the models of say the Skulk with bright pink versions, it's going to be far far easier to see them. It is essentially a form of cheating. That is why alot of servers enforced model consistency with the server, and if you deviated, it booted/banned you.
Personally I think it should be handled the same way NS1 did. Allow custom models, but also give the hosting servers the ability to enforce "vanilla" models.

Isn't there a way around this? As in, avoiding client checks of that sort by the server? Or faking the size of the file, I.E. adding empty space to fill the file to meet the same file size requirements? Or would the server check the file data of EVERY SINGLE CLIENT MODEL of EVERY player?
The best way is to do a hash of the files, that makes it very hard to fake, and is fairly fast. I assume that there is going to likely be 3 levels of modding models. Competitive play, basically just about everything default, minor changes such as hud or guns, but not models. And finally what ever you want, with most servers sitting in the middle, let you tweaks stuff without breaking balance due to having bright pink guys against solid black walls.
As for faking a hash of a file, sure you could do it, in theory. In practice, well if you where the director of the CIA and ordered them to come up with one, maybe.
