<div class="IPBDescription">"Shock wave" appearnce</div>I don't know about you guys, but I think scanning can have some awesome effects. In NS, the scan is this giant blue ring and everything that's invisible instantly becomes visible in a given area. That's great and all...but how about some little spicey effects? I'm not really sure what I'm going for here, but I'm thinking instead of a ring, it should make some kind of 3D blue bubble shock wave effect (without having an actual shock wave tear stuff up).
It could even distort the aliens vision for a second (very small distortion, something that shouldn't disrupt their screen too much). The blue shockwave effect would have to be somewhat translucent.
Here's a little illustration I made for you guys...
The commander just pinged the hive, the blue shock wave scan effect starts to appear.
<img src="http://img32.imageshack.us/img32/7686/scanhive1.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />
The shock wave effect gets bigger and bigger.
<img src="http://img31.imageshack.us/img31/5641/scanhive2.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />
When part of the shock wave scan effect goes over something that is invisible, it only makes that part of it visible instead of making the entire structure appear and the rest of the model would be very transparent with a gradual fade effect that goes from completely visible (inside the scan area) to partly invisible (end of the scan area with a soft glow effect) to a completely invisible (would fade out to invisibility). (This wouldn't effect what the siege cannons see)
<img src="http://img10.imageshack.us/img10/6286/scanhive3.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />
Then the shock wave effect grows to a certain point and stays there for a certain amount of time and slowly fades away.
<img src="http://img35.imageshack.us/img35/4883/scanhive4.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />
If you guys see what I'm saying, then I think this could be pretty cool...or atleast I think it could :P

But it wouldn't do any kind of stun effect, just a small screen distortion.
So it's actualy a Cylinder coming from the Roof and expanding until Max range and decays from the Center outwards...
