If you don't want to help Beta Test, then don't. Most of us want to. Many, many, many games have "public" beta tests for people to help out. Pre-ordering has the perk of getting to help Beta Test. Welcome to PC gaming.

It is/will be on Steam. The only issue right now is that if you Pre-Order, they don't know if you will be able to download the game via Steam. The game is incorporating Steamworks, meaning we'll all be playing through Steam no matter what.

ok so if you pre order it for the normal version you get to help beta test before the actuall release, and if you do the special pre order thing, you get to test out the alpha as well. Am I correct? (though they actually should be paying us for beta testing but I guess were not really paying for the beta testing I suppose, that was sneaky of them)

any way on the steam front, so how exactly will steamworks work, will I beable to put it on steam and beable to play it somewere else on a steam login?

oh and one last comment, I know the pc world, and I know what public beta testing is, what natural selection is doing is not public, when Dawn of War 2 sent thier free beta that was public beta testing, not this, these guys are pulling a bungie, (or an EA) public beta testing is free and available to all.

The standard version gives you access to the beta, the special version to the alpha.
They stated this very clearly on their pre-order page.

Of course there's a fee, Valve isn't Santa Claus.

I'm surprised you guys are answering him politely. He's blatantly sticking it in UWE's faces that he wants everything for free or isn't happy with their decisions.

QUOTE

Second why the hell isn't it on steam
If you took the time to actually read some of what they write you would know already that they are aiming to get it on steam.

Paying us for the chance to beta test their game?

If you pre-order the game (like so many of us have done) then you are given the privilege of playing the beta. You don't have to play the beta, and it sure as hell isn't your right to be able to play it free of charge.

    From the FAQ

Yes. Those that pre-order NS2 will be able to beta-test.
Just because they mention beta testing doesn't mean it's public.

Mmmm.... It is stated very clearly that a standard pre-order has access to the beta (as well as tools) while the special version has access to both the alpha and the beta (as well as tools.)

Ok first off the only person who needed to post was the first person to reaspond, who did it realitivley nicley.

TO the rest of you now you made this a big complicated mess,

@furry White zero said that this was public beta testing and I said it wasn't, thats all I ment. I didnot say that it was or it has to be. NOR did I say that it had to be seprate, I'm fine with the prices.

[Be Nice -aeroripper]... because no were did I complain about any of the things he mentioned I was simply confused because all I read was the pre order page but I didn't know if they weren't selling the full game or not.

I was confused about steam because I read some threads and apparently people were complaining about that it wasn't on steam, and I thought exactly what they said, that it wasn't on steam.

also @furry I understand now that we aren't the beta testers, its just the beta, and the've allready gone through it beta testing.

I didn't say NS2 was doing public beta testing, I was just making an example that many games have a public beta test.

Anyway, I doubt they will be doing a whole lot of internal Alpha/Beta testing, sense they now have an army of pre-order's to do it. I'm sure some will be done. But I'm also sure that the majority of bugs will be reported by We, the pre-orderers.

Plasmatic, I would recommend reading over the pre-order FAQ on the NS2 promo page to answer some of your questions:

    http://www.naturalselection2.com/preorderfaq

You will not be able to download it directly from steam like other steam games until Valve officially puts it for sale on steam. This means you won't be able to download the game from Steam if you're logging in from a friends computer. Instead you will just download it directly from the UWE website, and once installed it will run through steam like any other game since Steamworks is integrated. It will not auto-update through steam, but through UWE's own auto-update.

It appears there is a good chance (closer to release) Valve will let us pre-order people register our cd-keys so we can download the full steam version.
