take a look at the current serverlist ...there are plenty of servers ...most of them with bots.. ..but i have no doubt most of them willgo for ns2 when its released.

You might be able to get a couple 32 man server off 200, maybe. But u dont want to go over your bandwidth limit, ur ISP might shut off your service, has happend to another buddy of mine, he had to pay 100 bucks or so to get it back on.
I would still recommend a data center, im paying about 120 a month with some extras included and i get over 1000 gigs of speed a month.
NSA was a scam, I donated 40 bucks and never got what was so called the donater admin or whatever they called, I thought when u donated you were supposed to get something out of it.....Well I guess I was not the only one to get scammed.
Yo will probably run one too. They stopped hosting an NS sever due to the effort in maintaining it for a relatively small community. That and the passion for the game just wasn't there anymore. What I would like to know is what type of resources will it take up to run 2-3 servers of NS2?
I don't get it. Why do some of you try to host as many servers as possible? Is this just for the initial rush, when there are few servers? Wouldn't it be better if you host one high quality server and try to keep that one free of destructive players etc.? You would probably need an army of admins to keep 10 servers clean and fun (and good admins are hard to find). Or is there no need for admins?
Just wanted to share my concerns with you. :-) I wouldn't be happy if i buy expensive hardware and end up having empty servers after a few days/weeks.
I'm most likely going to host one server.. but i'm not yet sure about the number of slots.

The old owner did that Al Gorge or something like that. The older members are at 3-pg.com and run lots of game servers, and are very active.
Do i need to buy natural selection 2, to have the dedicated server binaries?
I want to host 1 or 2 servers for my Country (argentina), the same day ns2 will be published, the problem is that i dont have the money to buy the game (at least for now)....
I will be running a server. The max slots I will have will be 20 if I go that high. More then likely 18 with two reserved slots. Seems the best number in my opinion.
That's a bit concerning. Are UWE planning to run their own dedicated servers, several per continent during alpha/beta so that players get a reasonable ping? Seems like a pointless expense for them if they have so many people lining up to run servers for them for nothing.

I'm not even going to try to pretend to understand why they are doing it. Look at it this way, if the flood of traffic when the trailer was released took out the *web* server, can you imagine what release is going to do to the game servers? Web servers are many times less resource intensive then game servers. I simply can't see how they plan to be able to run enough servers.
Also, who is going to admin their servers? Not having any admins on them is a pretty simple way to make sure noone wants to play the alpha/beta.
"Charlie, what does the server say about the player count?" "IT'S OVER 9000!!!!!" "WHAT??? 9000???!?!?" ... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" />
Probably we have to send an application to UWE to become alpha server hosters ^^
If I had to guess? During Alpha they will run some number of servers internally (like I dunno, 4 or 5 servers at 18 people each or something). The load on the servers won't be too bad, its just that only a small number of people will be able to play at once. Everyone else will have to wait in line.
Then for Beta they'll hand out the server code and let you all run your own, so they can mass-test the game with lots of people playing at once.

And I'm running Linux, so that could be an issue, too.
Personally I think that servers with more than 18 slots are a waste of time/bandwidth because NS gets too crowdy and unbalanced.

Armslab?
All the real members move to 3-pg.com
I'm curious to see what the new NSA has to offer.

But we are also going to not only provide great servers to ns2, but also get some resource testing done.

They plan on being active for NS2 as well.

from my location, 200+ ms of ping dificults the game experience.
Question: "Will we be able to run our own servers during the NS2 alpha/beta?" Answer: Not right away for sure, definitely near the end.

Sound likely?
