Predator campaign walkthrough with devoloper commentary, part 1: <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GdfiQaKswNE" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GdfiQaKswNE</a>

Part 2: <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IbuxCN7FUJI" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IbuxCN7FUJI</a>

Those are for XBOX360. Some things look good, but I hope to god they drop that idiotic jumping system for the PC version. Talk about restricting... Mobility and freedom of movement was always one of the key elements of play in AvP2, a jumping system like that is terrible for dodging the enemy.

Predators are nice, but they're even nicer as meal. I'm really just waiting how they'll pull off the Xenomorph. As a veteran of AvP2, having played it for 6 years at a competetive level, the Alien part of the game will either make or break the game for me.

    YAY another AvP game!

Hmm, it's also made for consoles, I sure hope it's not dumbed down to a "shallow kidfriendly but shiny" type of game..

I loved playing AvP at LANs.
AvP2 was kinda quirky, especially for networked games.

    AvP2? :s
Um... did they rebalance the races later at any point? Back when I played it (initial release and the demo before) the aliens were a joke and marines were king. My unmatched alien play from AvP1 put me in good stead compared to most aliens and so I was always top alien but that was usually still fairly low on the scoreboard unless the marines were wildly incompetent.
As a marine/merc me and one of my flatmates would just run a tight but predictable route over the armour, health and ammo zones while spamming grenades everywhere (including at our own feet). We'd hit top of the server in seconds and stay there until we left... I wouldn't have minded but a monkey could have done what we were doing, it involved no effort at all. The only thing you had to watch for was predator netguns or fellow marines on a grenade frenzy :/
You know something is wrong when you hunt predators because they're an easy kill compared to marines ¬.¬

I think I stopped playing AvP2 in disgust after a LAN game where me and another alien jumped a marine. The first managed a pounce but got obliterated (still, at least he bled on him). While the marine was reeling I pounced as well, clawed twice and delivered a headbite. Not only was the marine still alive but he managed to pull his wobbling view around the 180 needed, stuck his smartgun in my alien's mouth and pulled the trigger. Even the resultant burst of acid blood didn't kill the jerk and this was on a LAN so there's no latency or other such excuses. Un-freaking-believable.

As for AvP (the new one). The video was surprisingly boring but I was never a predator fan anyhoo... rebellion needs to show us some marines and aliens XD

I'm with Gem on this, the video was incredibly boring and un-athmosphery.

    "Gee marines are shooting me"
    *cloak* *stands still*
"WHERE HE GO? Shoot randomly with the brightest bullet tracers you can find!"
"Alli-hopp" *predator grenade* or *LAZOR* or *KA-SCHLING*
    "blargh we are dead"

Not even the aliens seemed particularly hostile. About the jumping, is it only possible in red-tactical vision mode or something? I can't remember if he ever jumped in the other visions. Also, wasn't alien-view green vision called something scientificy in avp1 ?

Svenpa, that's par for the course for an E3 demonstration video. 90% of them are like that. The devs are invincible in every game and they move slowly and clumsily because they have to give the presenter a chance to say every pre-rehearsed line at the correct time. They have to follow the script and they can't deviate even if it doesn't make sense in-game to do the action they do, because if they had a different demonstration every time the guy talking to the journalists would have to make up new things every time and the PR team couldn't evaluate that beforehand.

Honestly, the only thing I really noticed was the door hacking sound was also used in Total Annihilation <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />

I do realize they play with godmode and take time to show off stuff but it doesn't have to mean that the AI has to fool around. There were no scripted sequences to watch, you judge if that's a bad or a good thing, but at least it can offer some depth and diversity. Yes, I get that it isn't the full game. The enemies just seemed apathetic time to time and it was a pure non-spectacular killing fest, except for the trophy kill.

I hope this game can give you that "OH CRAP!" feeling like the older ones do

Well before the part where you get all weapons as marine. then it's more of a "COME GET SOME!" feeling <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />

    Marine view was infrared.
Alien view was electro magnetic. (Aliens were sparkling blue)
And predator view was kinda special...

predator view was green and it was called 'predtech'. It showed any predator technology (including discs, which is about the only way you could find the darn thing after throwing it if it got lodged in a wall instead of coming back to you :p ).

    Yay AvP!

Looks... interesting. Awaiting further development. All of these companies have let me down sooo hard before.

I watched someone play as Predator at E3. Looked interesting. I have fond memories of AvP2 so I'll probably check up on this later to see how it turns out.

Yeah the initial AvP2 was terrible in terms of balance, they did change a few things here and there.

I can't say I've ever had problems with dispatching grenade spamming marines as an Alien. Just takes a very different approach to playing the game.

And that's really what AvP2 has always been about for me, it's like having 3 different games in one. Each race requires a radically different approach if you want to succeed. Marines are very straightforward, just run around and shoot everything that moves while keeping an eye on that radar.

Aliens on the other hand are all about speed and agility; finding and killing your enemy before he has a chance to react, either by using the terrain to your advantange to jump the enemy from unusual angles or simply by roaming around the map so fast marines don't have time to spot you on their radar. Predators were always the easiest of pray for me. They have no hitscan weapons and as such pose no real threat at a distance, save for the few people who could actually use the speargun on a fast moving target; they're much more deadly up close, but so is the Alien.

I just hope Rebellion doesn't screw this up. They have enough flopped games under their belt...

uh-huh, the way you described alien play is exactly how I ruled the roost in the original AvP but in AvP2 (at least during the demos and intial release) the aliens were too darn slow (even the runner) and the marines too hardy. The simple fact that they could survive your attacks AND one of their grenades generally rendered things like circle strafing and surprise fairly useless if they just shot at their feet. I'd go on runs and gather a nice crowd of aliens around me and then blast the ground and pick up a ton of kills. Even if they pounced you, you just shot at your feet and they'd die in a single blast while you're still fairly ok. If a predator had jumped in to try and get me or one of my 'herd' I'd fire two at my feet to make sure he died too (and I'd still survive)

Even with the sluggish aliens in AvP2 I could still maim preds and fellow aliens easily enough. Those grenades and the massively expanded motion tracker just made marines a nightmare. My friend got so good with them he'd hit people half-way across the map with his 'nades if he saw his motion tracker blip. Couldn't even get near him with the alien. I think the pinnacle of one of our 1v1 matches was when he shot me out of the sky, in the middle of a super leap , with a grenade.

Ah well, at least you enjoyed it. I'm hoping this'll be more AvP than AvP2 though :p

    Boo, no play as Marines?

Weak, AVP best campaign was the Marines imo, most ambient and freaky of 'em all.

I can't really comment on your experiences since I always played as Alien and had no trouble in dispatching spamming marines, but yeah, I did enjoy it, and still do on occasion. Never played AvP though, save for like 30 minutes of Marine single player years and years ago.

Rebellion are awesome. AvP for PC and AvP for the Jaguar were corking games, the Jaguar version being the first/only FPS to implement a gestation system for Aliens.

I have absolute faith in them, and only wish they would add back Honour Points for Predator weapon unlocks, Alien gestation by Warriors, and great atmospheric maps like those in the PC version.

I always played lifecycle in AvP2, as Alien, and there's nothing more fun than being plasma'd or disc'd nonstop as a Hugger or Burster. I hope we get more of the same, with better balance. Good old Hunt gameplay was always fun, even with the primitive player chat interface.

Ah, good times. I can't wait for it to come back.

PS - I don't think you can dumb down an FPS... I mean... seriously..

    Found some new footage: <a href="http://www.gameplanet.co.nz/pc/games/158877.Aliens-vs.-Predator/videos/133291.20090605.Aliens-vs.-Predator/" target="_blank">http://www.gameplanet.co.nz/pc/games/15887...s-vs.-Predator/</a>

Same map basically but somebody else playing it now with much better narrative.

Alot of things make me go "WTF! DONT DO IT LIKE THAT!" with the videos still, but what really rang to my ear are the words "pre alpha". We shall see what the future brings...

If you can find that vid elsewhere please link, it's streaming from New Zealand so might be slow...

I believe it's already been said that Marines are out of this game, it's just going to be Aliens Versus Predators.

(Which I think is dumb, because Marines are awesome, and Aliens are awesome, and it's awesome when it's Aliens Vs Marines, but it's cool to have Predators in there as well, just to round it out.)

The Marines had the best campaign in AvP2; so much god damn atmosphere you really felt isolated and SOL for the first 10 minutes of the game. It was really creepy since the other two species were technically better than you and outnumbered you constantly.

Then there was the whole level were you get captured... ugh.

When Monolith were milking the AvP teat, I recall talk that some of the plans for "AvP3" would involve a more "Doom 3" experience for the Marine player.

Let's be honest, the Marine part of AvP2 had some awesome scenes - like when the ceiling caves in and you see a shiny dome and a segmented tail... but it's just a pipe and some cable!

It'd be nice if Rebellion mould the game so that the Alien experience is slashy slashy, the Predator experience involves some proper hunting, and the Marine gets some good scares and Zulu/Aliens moments.

Monolith tried a bit with AvP2 but I don't think they really succeeded. Some nice moments, but largely the exception than the rule.
