NS2 Railcar Art Test

<div class="IPBDescription">The NS2 art test I did for fun.</div>Hello everyone! This is my first post, I've been following the blog for a while now, everything looks so great!

Anyway, I've done the NS2 art test (nr6 to be precise) for fun (look at it as fan art or something) and this is how it turned out. Because I have other things to do it didn't turn out exactly like I planned but well, here it is <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />

So it's less than 1300 polys, and the texture maps are 1024x1024.

    Not bad, but it's not quite there yet, either. Overall I think it'd be a great deal more NS-y if it didn't have so much of the dark grey metal colour, and instead more of the green and blue TSA uses.

    Agreed.
    I don't like the red thingy in the front regarding the colors.

    I don't think it should have the TSA colors, since it's not a TSA railcar, but you might want to work on your UV mapping. Try to keep all of the main parts of the cart at the same scale on the map; the front part with the lightbulbs is a lower resolution and it makes the texture look fuzzy right where you want the most detail. At least, that's what it seems like when I'm eyeballing it.

    Perhaps not the TSA colors, but a more exciting colour scheme than dark grey metal at any rate.

    I think this looks excellent! Especially for being 1300 polys.

    As for the color scheme, I think it's dead on. If for no other reason than the TSA is usually docked with another ship, and <i>that's</i> where the fighting happens. So I wouldn't expect the TSA colors to be branded on to every ship you come across.

    And the warning label is a nice touch.

    1300 polys and such little actual modelled detail? it looks quite bland imo, dont make me have a try on that one myself XD.

    It is quite difficult to make any model fit well in NS without having Cory texture it. His textures have a common-uniqueness that people have trouble matching.

    But at the same time, most of the texture work is being done by Matt. (see the texture rendering video) I know I would use this model if I ever got around to making an NS2 map.

    Heh, what? It's 1300. You aren't going to get a terrific amount of detail from that number.

    Anyhow, good effort. The model is perfectly fine. but what's letting you down at the moment is your skin. It lacks contrast and detail. Give it some extra special attention and you'll be /thumbsup

    Perhaps some environment in context and the railcar might look a smidgen more "suitable", either way +1 to the effort done :)

    WOW man it looks nice ofcourse it might need some tweaking , Man this shows what talents we got here on the forums .
