I was wondering if you could setup a webslice for the news page.

Out of curiosity what would you want with the webslice? Each blog post all ready gets it's own page?

Well a webslice is usually a simple version of a piece of the whole website so that it can be shown in the little drop down box's in IE8. It also has the ability to automatically go and check if there are any updates, and if so bolds the link at the top. That way even when we are off doing other things we can see if there are new blog posts and read them quick and easy. They are very easy to set up just a few extra little html comments.

I think most of us would rather them focus on NS2 and not supporting IE8 features.

I would have thought the many RSS feeds for NS would have made webslices an utterly redundant M$ only "feature".

Now I love MS bashing as much as the next guy, but this isn't really that bad of a feature. It's just built to solve a problem that doesn't really exist any more. Back when websites were laid out with as much info crammed onto their front page as possible this would have been very useful(and still is for some sites). But most sites now are laid out in a central blog format like UWE and that makes webslices redundant since there's only one or two things on each page anyway.

But most of them aren't using IE8.

That's because IE8 is in beta. Once it is officially released and IE starts bugging its user base to update you'll see IE8 have the largest marketshare just like the adoptions of IE7 and IE6 before it.

As much as I think FF should have the highest marketshare it simply <a href="http://marketshare.hitslink.com/browser-market-share.aspx?qprid=2" target="_blank">does not</a> at this point.

Overall I agree with you that this isn't a useful feature to support, just not because it's an "IE Only" feature.

Not any more. IE8 went live last week, with barely a whisper of PR. It's rather creepy.

Webslices isn't alone in being a Microsoft specific, stillborn, web technology. IE has transitions, DHTML behaviors, HTM web apps, Install on demand fonts, literally dozens of element attributes that only it recognizes, DHTML objects that do the same as other browsers objects, just with a different naming convention.

All fine implementations of their various functions and almost totally unheard of and unused beacuse no other browser has them, even when IE had 85% of the browser market. When will they learn?

At least IE8 is finally CSS 2.0 complaint.
