Corpses

<div class="IPBDescription">Some like them, some don't. Your thoughts?</div>Just wondering if anyone knew if they were changing this in natural selection 2. Corpses do add to games, but they also can take away. One thing i like about corpses, is the fact that you can tell if a huge battle has just taken place. A marine slumped against a wall with two dead skulks metres from him, oozing green blood. And blood splatter. If you get a few shots into a skulk, some blood is left behind on the wall, even if the skulk doesn't die. I don't wanna go so far as to the fact that corpses break when shot, and you can shoot limbs off etc, cause then things get a little bit messed up, but definately bodies lieing around. They could disappear 10 seconds after the player respawned.

On a side note, another element of this could be that the dead are used kinda like shield if you catch my drift, although this would really only work in the case of an onos, and it would be very hard to implement. I.e. You can't shoot through the onos but you can run through it to get past? Hmm

This would probably up the rating of the game, but in the end, it's probably gonna have a 18+ anyway.

<i>dark corridor, the lights are dimmed, a single shadowy person stands, the gun pointing to the floor, the hologrammic HUD lights his face, fear, sweat and blood covers it, arround him lies the bodies of his friends, whit horrible injuries, limbs got bitten of, heads crushed.
the circle of his friends, then the mass of pilled up skulk bodies, just lumbs meat now, they got ripped apart from the blazing storm of lead, and some even got splattered on the walls, cought in the explosions of the squads GL gunner, the whole corridor was covered in blood, the walls, the floor, the ceiling. the distinct sound of claws in ventshafts are to hear, and the Radio massage from the marines helmet flew through the corridor, reporting a Fade in this sector, but the Marine didnt run, It was too late for that.</i>

imagine that. would make a pretty good artwork.
    Vote yes.

Like. More gruesome. Blood. PARTS of corpses. Heads. Limbs. Unrecognisable pieces. And More.

    edit: darktimes, if you're really sorry for your bad english you wouldn't use the word "Jes" <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad-fix.gif" /> It's "Yes". I know you have a Y key.

The more mangled the bodies, the better.

If anything leave it to the player's settings.

yeah, like "normal" mode whit no bodies, and a "gore" mode where limbs can get amputated and bodies stay for a while, but it must be clientside and Noclip whit players to not interrupt the gameplay.

I'd expect them to shoot for Teen ESRB rating. which is "minimal blood" <a href="http://www.esrb.org/ratings/ratings_guide.jsp" target="_blank">http://www.esrb.org/ratings/ratings_guide.jsp</a>

So probably even less than NS1. Or about the same.

Having a ragdoll dismemberment feature would be totally awesome.
And about ERSB ratings, honestly, how many 12 years old with a PS3 and GTAIV or Gears of War do you guys know?

Yeah? I don't even know any twelve year olds. Except my little brother, but we don't have a PS3, nor do we have those games.

there's an old quake 2 mod called gloom thats a bit like NS. in it the alien team could infest dead marine corpses with a little colony of angry flying insects that would fly out of it and attack any marines within range.... that was pretty cool.

Since there is a matter of frames per second one could max the limit of corpses, something which the engine already has implemented. It is basically the same thing as gib count, but the problem is that if corpses should have its place in the engine, it depends on the mapper to remove obstacles and limit his work. Making the maps look God awful in order for you to have a couple of corpses lying around.
Gib count includes broken wood, broken glass, blood stains, and so forth.

I do not believe we want a low age rating for NS2, i cant think a 12-13 jear old is the right target audience for such a complex and teamwork oriented product.

UWE, bring gore please, alot of it so that we can have a more mature game expierience.

Not quite seeing how gore would help the experience (except possibly being grossed out).

Gore is okay, as long as it doesn't detract from the gameplay experience, which should be the main draw of the game.

I don't know if this could work on second thought. In theory, it would be sweet, but would the dead bodies impair movement? Would you have to shoot through dead bodies to break them? How much health would the dead bodies have? Then of course, if this was up to the client to choose, having corpses on would leave you at a huge disadvantage to those with them off.

Imagine a corridor, maybe two humans wide. An Onos dies in the center. You would have to bring in a GL to clear it or just simply wait for the body to despawn. Sounds like this would take away as much as it would add to the game.

Eh, but still. If an Onos dies, congratulations on trying to see past it.

Ever played dead space? It's gory and all that, and the gore and dying/already dead people with blood and guts add suspense, horror, and curiosity. Also it might make the game kinda creepy and makes think "if i don't want to look like that i better get moving." Know what i mean?

Speaking of corpses, and i know this is a little bit off topic, but who when they were playing NS1, after dieing tried to run back to their body to retrieve the gun they just lost only to find it already disappeared? The timer for your corpse and your gun seemed to be astronimically short.

I'm hoping that in NS2, you are on the large part, if you head straight back there, able to save your gun and ammo. Hoping it is like CSS in the sense that when you drop your gun, it becomes just another object that bounces when it hits the ground and can be moved around when shot/chomped etc.

Would be funny to see an alien after killing you, chomping your gun into a dark corner so you can't find it when you run back. Little bits and pieces like how much is left over after a fight, i feel add a great deal to the atmosphere in a game.

As a lifeform I remember thinking it lasts forever. If there are other marines nearby it is pretty much guaranteed to be picked up.
