A replacement idea from me would be queued wall-jumping.
To perform such jumps, you simply press double strafe/jump or crouch. Double strafe will jump you horizontally (like in UT), double crouch would jump you downwards (like in a 30-40° angle). Double jump would jump you upwards (also in a 30-40° angle) when on a wall.
If you double press those buttons while in the air, it will queue those jumps and perform them once you touch a wall (or the roof/ground). Every wall or roof jump will give you a speed bonus that can be maintained if you bunny-hop on the ground.
That way, aliens can more or less leap through hallways, but are pretty much screwed on open terrain.

Both Radix and Killkrazy are correct in their specific posts, though. Radix is right because they are better at the game, and KK is right because their ability to get closer is because they are fully aware of a glitch in the game (that is not documented or taught within the game) and have practised it.
Arguing that it should not be in because it's a glitch has no validity. It's been left in for year upon year. That should tell you something so stop being so pigheaded and see sense.
Arguing that it should be a properly designed feature has validity. Let's get back to talking about how it can be implemented or if not, then propose a good alternative that gives the same or coparable benefits to gameplay. If you don't understand the benefits then you have some reading/playing to do before you can have much more to offer to this thread.

Well, it could also work by just holding down the buttons to queue a jump (i.e. hold strafe while touching wall will perform the walljump). Anyways, IMO this would already be too easy.
If you are saying that bhop is intuitive, then I say it isnt. Once you learn bhop, it is intuitive, of course, but everything is intuitive once you learned it.

Me personally would like bhop to stay in with qued jumping and perhaps better feedback on speed. But the game should do a good job at introducing players to it or any alternative movement skill. I agree that how marine movement works in NS1 is bad for atmosphere, but skulk bhop makes just as much sense as fade blink.
As some have pointed out, playing marine you can always get better at aiming, but skulks relying mostly on ambushing seems to easy to counter.
At the same time, I don't care if it's bhop or something else, as long as improved skulk efficiency scales with improved marine aim.
If the bunnyhop glitch (with strafe-curling) was never in the Engine, it would never have been added to make the game better.
QUOTE

...what is relevant is the fact that it adds a lot to Natural Selection 1..
It's not a fact, it is your opinion. If developers feel skulks DO need a boost in maneuverability or mobility, then they can go ahead and figure that out. But glitches in the game should be removed... and THAT is a fact:

Almost nobody who can bhop is against it. Almost nobody who is against it can bhop. It's a bunch of noobs crying pretty much, happens in every game. It's just that in this case, the noobs look like credible figures because all the good players have quit the game, and therefore the bar has been lowered.
okay, so first off, glitch is not a concrete term, if didn't cause any game to cease functioning, crash etc. It was unintentional in the first builds of half life and ns.
HOWEVER: the devs of NS nerfed bhopping with out taking it out. AS IN IT WAS PURPOSELY LEFT IN.
AS IN INTENTIONAL
they addressed the problem, and made a decision to remove bhop for marines, and leave it in for aliens in a lesser state. Bunny hopping was initially unintentional, but be became very much intentional when it was purposely not "fixed"
Also the game was balanced with bunny hop in mind. In fact I think if it were taken out of natural selection one, right now, the alien side would be severely under powered at high levels of play.
AND finally, if natural selection 2, included bunny hop... would it be a bug?
Fun side note: Bugs have been added as important and full fledged features in games for a long long time. Combos, and specifically move cancels, in fighting games started out as a bug in Street Fighter 2. The bug revolved around special moves being activated on the release of a button, so inf you input correctly you could cancel any normal attack into a special move on the same button. This was not an intended feature of SF2, but it has been included in the vast majority of 2d fighters since then (in fact the just released SF4 has this system in it to this day). BUG->Important game play feature. Nobody today would call special move cancels a bug, but it was very much unintended in SF2.

Why do some people have such issues getting their heads around the 'glitch' element?
The fact that it was originally a glitch is completely irrelevant.
Why do so many fail to differ between bunny hopping and the bhop glitch (or better phrased, air-strafe-control glitch)?

I like the idea of a sprint button, but what if the skulk aliens where given an ability to "shuffle"?
The shuffle ability would (hypothetically) allow skulks to dash left or right (probably diagonally as well) to avoid an otherwise lethal close-range shotgun blast and be very unpredictable. It's hard to explain exactly what I'm picturing here, but I can see a skulk rushing toward a marine from the marine's point of view, and the skulk ducking down slightly and quickly scurrying left or right every now and then like a crab, and the marine unable to save his life since a side-dashing skulk is a lot harder to hit close-range (they move out of line of sight easier). They wouldn't be able to do this in air and they'd only be able to use it every few seconds so players couldn't exploit it and dash sideways everywhere they went. Perhaps having celerity would allow you to use it more (if it wasn't already too fast). I don't know how it would work with wall-walking, but it'd look AMAZING with regular celerity and leap. Hell.. perhaps even a dash in any direction would work, as long as it didn't elevate them (like a jump) and they couldn't change direction mid-dash (change view, but not actual direction).

I'm converted, lets go Bunnyhop! Anyone who disagrees is hilarious!

Good I'm glad we all finally agree.
Ah.. just an idea..

Are you referring to the kind of side step jump when you dbl tap strafe in some games (I think Warsow had this)?
Would be kinda interesting.
Pikachu, Agility, now!

You tried that joke once, no-one laughed.
Why don't you leave this thread and let people come up with new ideas?
You are going to cry like a little ###### no matter what.
Normally I'd just read, but your trolling is just to much for me to silently take.
