Scout/Sentry style Bot

<div class="IPBDescription">A Sentry Bot that is mountable and can move</div>After watching your Artillery Tank designs on MODDB a thought hit me. How about a Sentry turret <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/turret.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="::sentry::" border="0" alt="turret.gif" /> that is placed by the commander BUT it is able to be mounted by a marine/alien, stood up and used to scout around and secure areas away from the main base? It could have like the ability to get up and set down anywhere else making a bit more action for base battles and open areas. It could also be able to jump a small height. The weapons that could be mounted on it are a minigun for the marines and a hardened spore shooter for the aliens. And the secondary fire could be whatever weapon/ability the marine/alien had equipped before mounting the sentry/scout turret creating a variety of differently styled turrets e.g. Minigun and Shotgun/Missle Launcher/etc. for marines and Spore Shooter and Poison sprayer/entrapment device/etc. for aliens. Also I think you should name the Artillery Tank The B.O.A.R. because 1. It looks like a Boar when not deployed (well to me it does) 2. because Marines could have a bunch of lines to say when ever they see it e.g. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/marine.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="::marine::" border="0" alt="marine.gif" /> "Big Omega Artillery Riot? I like the sound of that" etc.

    I don't really like the idea of a marine sitting on a turret; i think it makes more sense for players to be out there exploring the level and actually doing stuff.

    I think you misinterpreted (bad spelling) what I said. The turret the marine/alien is in would have the ability to move. You know getup, move around the map, set down to protect their new location and jump. Its a bit like a very weak mech without any arms if you think about it. But the main use of it would be scouting and location control. When its scouting its armor could be weak and when its hunkered down it has stronger armor. Makes the game more fun and have more action.     Yeah, the idea is its a walking turret that acts as both a scout and a sentry and has the ability to Bunker down like a normal turret. In other words when you press crouch a 20-30s sequence could initate where the turret embeds into the ground and charges up a energy shield (takes 10s) so it raises armor power for the gunner as well as the walker but the drawback is you can't move. Then when you press the jump button a 40s sequence activates where the walker stands back up, snaps back into place, cools down and discharges the power for the energy shield and gains back the ability to walk but loses its extra armor. So either way the sentry is balanced and works well. Only problem is the only way to defeat the walker at the moment is either have a skulks bite the gunners head off while in walker mode or have a Onos run into it. This could easily be fixed if there was a alien say a subspecies of skulk that is able to drain power via latching onto the machine thats using power. Then this power could be split two ways for the subspecies. The first way is that the power heals its health (changes the power from electricity to health, bit like photosynthisis) and the second way is it gives powers to the subspecies attacks. Reload could equal a sudden blast of power (bit like a EMP) from the subspecies but kills it and disables machines for a few seconds as well as hurting Marines a bit (closer = bigger effect). LMB could equal like a discharge from the creature that gets stronger the longer the button is held down for + the amount of energy the creature has). RMB could equal the same leap attack as the skulk but only difference is that it leachs power from machines and eventually disables them and starts eating away at their armor as well as electrocuting marines whilst attached to them (no normal bite damage though.

    I could attempt a sketch of what I think the turret should look like when I have some free time although it would only be a simple sketch (not really a artist in the drawing district). I may even attempt to model it on XSI although I don't know how it would turn out then (not very... experienced at modelling). Anyway hope you like the ideas. I also have some more Involving anti-gravity and air-less corriders, Magnet soles for boots and suckers for alien feet, O2 masks for Marines and O2 Glands for Aliens, doors that lead into corridors/walkways in space and a sub-class for the heavy marine that could be used to combat the dynamic infestation (involves fire). Oh and I also have ideas for a siege tank attack for aliens, metal floors that have a corridor/room underneath them that can be melted by acid and dynamic infestation capture nets used against marines involving hidden holes in the floor as well as skulks getting the ability to push the captives back to base and marines having the ability to free them and a special ability that involves the Hive mind, a capture marine and special pod things that create alien/human Hybrids that act as vehicle/hosts for Skulks to infiltrate the enemy base (keep a close eye on your marine allies, watch to see if they are breathing and behaving normally). <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/marine.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="::marine::" border="0" alt="marine.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skulk.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="::skulk::" border="0" alt="skulk.gif" />

    Holy long post with 1000s of ideas and not spread out and and and ... batman

    I think Darknessvamp wants mechs... And lots of firepower... And robots in disguise...

    I am sure this idea has been suggested before... and I believe Devs are shying away from ANY vehicles...

    I believe many 'experienced' commanders will agree that a marine is a 'walking turret'. I may have quoted someone there from a long time ago... But I like to use that quote when people want me to use turrets ;p

    But then again this could be ... yet another 'gameplay' style addition (like alien vs alien, surviving marines, etc...) Vehicles/mechs/etc...

    I just want ... 'classic' NS2 though...

    Huh.. I really like the idea, but I think I agree with StarClaws. The devs probably aren't going to have things like this.. If they don't, maybe you could make your own Mod of NS2? I don't think it would be all that hard to do.. hell, I might even try modelling a thing like this at some point.

    To be honest, I like mechs/mechas. But I don't really like them in NS, because I think if you're gonna have mechs, then go all the way (ie. a mech-focused action game), but NS isn't a mech action game, so no.

    Then again... if the commander supplies me with the good old Onos Swatter Mark III, I might just change my mind.

    and second... I think I should have worded the thread title better. I started this thread with the intention of giving the idea of a Sentry for BOTH Alien and Marine that had the technology/evolution to walk (Alien sentry would be bio weapon lol ). So that BOTH sides were equally balanced for defence and attack (I'm not wording my sentences very well am I?) Okay, starting again. The Sentry Turret that I propose for both aliens and marines (they would be very different from each other Alien=biological Marine=Technology) would have the ability to move and set down and get up anywhere on the map making it a effective and fun tool for the game because it would then be able to be used as a location defender and scouter and also perhaps as support fire. The turrets would be controlled by the Players NOT the Commander. The Commander can only deploy the turrets into the game as auto-sentrys around the base and the players have to jump into the sentry to give it the ability to move and set down and get up wherever they desire. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/asrifle.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="::asrifle::" border="0" alt="asrifle.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/turret.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="::sentry::" border="0" alt="turret.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hive5.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="::hive::" border="0" alt="hive5.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/pudgy.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="::gorge::" border="0" alt="pudgy.gif" /> (super hive cannon anyone?)
