NS2 Project Plan

Just a quick one, is there a project plan to see what you guys have planned in terms of development phases so we have a vague idea of when the release date is in sight, it doesn’t have to contain dates just key development thresholds. There has obviously been a lot of speculation on the forums, threads being closed because of people asking when it will be realised, smart ass comments about it being 2024 etc.

I like others are eager to see the next release of this excellent mod, keeping up with twitter is making our eyes grow as big as bambi on heroin whenever there is an update.

Each developer may be working on their own task, have blogs etc but how does all this fit in with the overall goal of the project. Over the past year we have seen videos of you guys working hard on things, will you release video clips or a news update of a finished task, such as hive models, siege cannon, light effect on a test map etc.

I am not sure how everyone else thinks but more offical news posts would be nice, it doesnt need to include video, or audio, a simple picture or some text on where you guys are up to. Twitter is great for keeping up to date but in order to figure out whats going on you need to jump far back and read the posts one by one and its hard to figure out what things have been completed, worked on etc.

I have been following ns2 development for a long time now and well they have a lot of things working but they are not actually completed. So I THINK we could have it by the end of 2009 or early 2010, longer than that they will have no more money left + in a recent interview they said they had a release date but talking about it could only hurt them, so it must be relatively close...

I recommend to not take my predictions seriously...cause if i am wrong and you are convince that you are gonna play it in 2009 you will be sad <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad-fix.gif" />

They have a plan but they aren't going to tell us because that just invites failure, speculation, etc.

Right now, all I want to see is an awesome trailer.

    I second that.

I think a trailer would be better made closer to the time of release rather than before as it will take time and how can they show things that are not complete yet? My only concern was them taking a lot of things on but not actually completing things so they end up having to manage them all and complete them at a later date.

Its a pity you cant get sponsorship from intel, amd, nvidia or some company similar and all you need to do is stick logos on the menu pages or waiting area of official maps if they are low on cash.

How about we start with more character models and work our way down to environmental screenshots, then gameplay shots, then gameplay videos and finally a trailer. Periodic concept art along the way would be nice.

Well of course that stuff would have to be done first, but I'm more excited to see in-game footage!

That's why I want to see a trailer too (this would mean the release of NS2 would be close).

No, not really. A lot of trailers come out years before games do. Not always and certainly not for mods, but it doesn't spell imminent release by any stretch of the imagination.
