"SETUP HAS NOT DETECTED A VALID STEAM INSTALL"

Hi all. When installing this mod in my Half-Life directory It gives me "SETUP HAS NOT DETECTED A VALID STEAM INSTALL". I purchased Half Life Source for 9.99 off the Steam website and it's in my Steam directory. What else am I doing wrong? I tried activating HL:S in the steam menu but they didn't send me any CD key when I purchased this game. All I got is a customer number for proof of purchase.

That's the problem. You need Half-Life, not Half-Life: Source.

Thanks. I already dug in my pocket for 9.99 for the original Half Life. This blows. What's the point of Valve making Half Life Source, I guess it was to trick me into paying ten dollars for it thinking I could use it for mod purposes. DUH.

You have to have it installed via Steam.

If you do then make sure HL is fully updated (enter the hazard course and then exit).

    Just ignore the message.

It said the same to me. All you have to do is browse by yourself and select you're Half Life folder inside steamapps. Install NS there and NS should apear in Steam after you restart it.

That generally happens b/c you have either:
    1) Reinstalled your OS, but Steam was on a different partition. So, as far as Windows knows, you don't have HL installed b/c all of the registry entries are missing.
    2) You moved your steam/HL install from some where else, and again, have no registry entries.

I have done this once or twice (I keep my Windows install on a different drive then everything else, and if it gets ######ed up, I tend to be dumb and simply reinstall windows and deal with the fact that nothing has a proper registry entry).
