Look at a lot of other soon-to-be-released games.

Their media section almost always has a selection of wallpapers, which people will use.

Now I'll explain why this is a good marketing product.<ul><li>A common topic in forums is "Screen shot your desktop", people will often ask where you got this, that etc.</li><li>The image doesn't have to be used as a wallpaper only, opening up many other options, such as a poster.</li><li>People are round at other people houses a lot of the time, they see peoples computers, and wallpapers too.</li><li>Anyone who has the wallpaper will always be reminded of the game.</li></ul>I think we should put some real effort into a good selection of wallpapers, <a href="http://www.unknownworlds.com/ns2/forums/index.php?showtopic=102705" target="_blank">we have the skills</a>, so lets get going?

Lets start by narrowing down the things the wallpapers needs to have, then select some good images to use, and some good slogans.

Let's try and make them as high res as possible too.

    I'll start of the list of must haves.<ol type='1'><li>Text: Natural Selection 2 or some sort of logo that makes the name of the game very clear.</li></ol>An example of a good wallpaper for a game would be Diablo3's;

    The first thing we see in the above image is the huge diablo3 logo/name in the middle, then blizzards logo at the bottom, and finally the picture as a whole. The red lines representing the 3 for diablo3 lead our eyes to the Blizzard logo.

    It is important, I think, to notice that the Blizzard logo is not the primary focus, it's there so the viewer can look up blizzard and find out more, but it's not to imposing.

    However without testing the wallpaper, I have a feeling that the Blizzard logo might be just above the taskbar, or indeed under it, personally I hate it when wallpapers do that, but what do you think?


    Taking another wallpaper from the Diablo3's media page, we can see one with the logo and an image put together.

    I'm really not that good without photoshop. ( Haven't got it installed right now )

    But I'll try and throw something together.

    EDIT:
    I have a slight WIP done, but I'm struggling with a 'Header', such as the 'Footer' used in the second of Diablo3's wallpapers.
    I'm making it so that the header will go on the top portion of the picture, the white space I have is currently 1600 x 240 for the header, if someone could throw one together, and post the .psd here, I'd appreciate it.

    My Idea was to have the marine on one side fading into the hallway uninfested, then on the other side the onos fading into the infested hallway. The halls meet in the middle with an abrupt cut, then the header will say "Worlds collide: Natural Selection 2" With an unknownworlds logo somewhere there too.

    If you want me to post my WIP just ask, however note that it's not great.

    Btw, the Wallpaper Resolution thing should be okay, since it is...widescreen...it should work. Can't test it or give me a proper resolution i should set it on, since I have a 16:9 TFT screen, not a 16:10 TFT screen.

    Yeah using Ubuntu.

    But you see the black borders? You'll need to find someway of filling them up or resizing the picture.

    Or you could just add the NS2 logo at the top, then the unknown world one at the bottom, and see how it turns out.

    the concept art itself is nice, but I dont like that wallpapers, its just a mix of some elements.
    I like the idea of "2 worlds colliding", but by just using already avaible concept art the job isnt done.

    in your first tryouts there is just missing "movement" in the pictures. Its not like diablo3, where the creators
    of the wallpapers were playing with "mystical elements", the slogan "Worlds collide: Natural Selection 2"
    let me expect some fighting scene.

    either change slogan or just use that picture and write the slogan above:

    It's because no one's made them yet, probably the viewer base of these forums have yet to upgrade to widescreen.

    yeye we are still using 1280 x 800, because the old wallpapers are fit <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" /> (1280 x 1024)

    Sometimes the most noticeable wallpapers are the ones that have very little. I personally would love to see something along the lines of this.

    All black background with just a hint of a hallway. The hallway is just barely showing and comes into the center of the picture to draw ones eyes there. Have a single fan/vent on the ceiling of the hallway with light coming in like the new bounce lighting effect. In the background with a very faint amount of bounce light show the outline and a few features of an Onos looking straight ahead.

    This would create a spine tingling effect and I think it would really have a great "wow" pop to it. You could put the logos at the top right and bottom right with the corners of the hallway. After seeing the logos your eyes will naturally follow the hallway to the Onos. Leaving the left side cleared for desktop icons seems to be a good idea.

    I have been following this thread for a bit and wanted to contribute to it, but didn't have the time. But today i finally got a minuet or two to whip this up for you guys

    As you've already sais yourself, the font is a little bit on the dark side. IMHO it should be more of an eyecatcher then the hive in the background. Other then that I really like the misty effect.

    Is that some blending layer effect on your text?
