Interesting though, thanks for posting about it =3
If it plays as well as PSO did or better then I'll be happy but it's hard to say with who's all working on it. I don't see Yuji Naka in there and while idolmaster is cute I kinda liked the art-style of PSO. This kinda looks like Phantasy Star Crystal Chronicles or something XD
Knowing me I'll probably be unable to NOT buy it so I'll find out whenever it turns up =3

What's important is that it looks like they learned from their mistakes with PSU.

The official Japanese website for Phantasy Star Zero has just been unveiled! A few things of note from it:
* The intent of the game's title is to provoke a feeling of "returning to origins."
* There will be three races and 14 classes.
* You will be able to create your own character.
* The game will take place on the Earth and its moon.
* We have Rappies. (Well, that was a given. But now screenshots confirm it.)
* Dylon City is another new area. (Though, this seems to be a lobby with NPCs as opposed to a battlefield.)
The site says to expect more information this October.

...my awesomebladder just exploded.
First impressions:
Good:
-Controls work very well
-Online play is free
-Not laggy at all
-Mags are back
-Shotgun swords
-Is more PSO
-Takes the good things from PSU and leaves the rest
-Cowboy hats
Neutral:
-Combat is much faster and harder. There is a dodge button, and you'll die if you don't use it
-Loot is client side. Everybody gets their own and you can't even see other players pick theirs up
-You can take your offline characters online and vice versa. Good on the surface but I see hacking in the future
Bad:
-Music is terrible
-Menu system seems to be specifically designed to trick you into deleting your friend codes/characters/items
-Hi, I'm Phantasy Star! I'm an anime!
-The targeting system is kind of wonky at times
Now I just need to wait a few millenia for it to come out over here. I suspect we'll be flying about in spaceships you can see in the game by the time it hits the UK shores :p

Or just till next winter! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" />
Finally came out over here. I've been busy with work and stuff so I've not played it as much as I'd like but so far so good. I like what they've done with the combat and it actually feels like a step up from PSO if you ignore one or two things that are there due to the DS's technical limitations (e.g. limited customisation). To be honest, this is more like what PSU should have been like :p
Haven't had a chance to go online yet as it doesn't support WSA security (which is annoying because I purposefully bought a DSi so we wouldn't be stuck on WEP anymore). I'll get one of my flatmates to change us to WEP so I can jump on though :3
Biggest things that struck me so far are the new weapons like the shields which are awesome (you block attacks at the cost of 1pp while strafing) or the bizarre gunswords (sword normally but as Pulse mentioned, they turn into shotguns while you're in strafe mode). There's something really satisfying about doing a 3 hit combo then dodge rolling away too.
Oooh! ooh! the Photon art 'Thriller Combo' for guns is awesome too and the whole 'hold down' system is intriguing, especially with how it changes tech use. Guns are actually interesting to use again.
The most important thing above all these changes though is that the creatures/bad guys aren't boring like in PSU. Lots of unique attack patterns and behaviours to watch out for, like the giant electrical AoE the funny seals do in the wetlands. The bosses are cool too (unlike the PSU bosses which were fairly dull).
All I need to do is work out what class I want to be I guess ^^;
I'm currently using a HUnewearl (my usual, the FOnewearl didn't have a hairstyle that appealed to me for a change) but I'll have to dabble a bit to see what really suits :p
Only complaints so far are the limited customisation (which is fair considering it's on a DS) and that they're still mixing monster types. Switching weapon isn't particularly easy in combat (for some reason they use the d-pad, they should've left the d-pad for movement and used the touch screen instead) so having them mixed is kinda meh. I remember thinking it would be a good idea in the original PSO but once they started doing the mixed types in PSO I & II it turned out to be more annoying than fun. It's no biggy though, most of the creatures in the areas seem to be of one type so it's really just the odd one or two that you won't get your photon bonus against.
(For those who don't know what I'm talking about, the games have 4 enemy 'types': native, beast, machine and ...I can never remember the 4th :p Anyhoo, weapons can have % for each category and if they do then they do that much % more damage against that type so in the original PSO if you have a 45% native weapon you'd take that into the forest levels, which was all native creatures).
Eep! I've rambled on long enough! Anyone else in the UK got/getting this? How about our US PS0 fans? You guys still playing or has your interest already dwindled? :o
Phantasy Star news edit: The team working on Phantasy Star have said in several interviews that they're planning a return to the home consoles after Phantasy Star Zero and Phantasy Star Portable 2. There's no real details as such but they did say something about "pushing the boundaries" and wanting to try some really different things. I'm hoping whatever they do turns out to be an improvement and not the soulless mess that Phantasy Star Universe was :p
Either way, the prospect of another Phantasy Star online game on the home consoles is kinda exciting :3
