Crashing when entering a game!

Hi, i recently bought a new PC

intel 8400 processor, HD4850 ATI card, vista 32-bit etc... The thing is that the game is crashing the second after i transport from the ready room to the actual game! Any idea as to why this might be? I'm running it through openGL. Is that the right setting to use?

    Just the usual stuff:
    -Force HL.exe to run on only 1 core.
    -Switch off background applications, then switch them on one by one till you find the one that is gucking ns up
    -Reinstall hl+ns
    -virus+spyware scan
    -latest drivers

    etc
    etc

    I actually managed to get it working before reading this though. I changed the graphics thing from openGL to D3d. I have no idea what that is but it seemed to work. It's now running at 60fps with the highest settings. Is D3d or openGL my graphics card? I'm slightly confused.

    Unfortunately there are a few other minor porblems; which are a bit strange.
    For some reason when i press tab for the scores, both teams' scoresheets are coloured in green instead of the normal yellow and blue. Another thing is that the icons next to peoples names are silhouetted to just black, with no colour.
    A similar thing happens in my commander view and i am unable to click the commander buttons to drop buildings/equipment.

    Any idea what's going on?

    I was going crazy with the same problem - i wiped my whole system and reinstalled windows, and STILL HAD this problem. Everytime i started a game my sound would LOOP and im stuck at NS screen.

    I tried every friggen Nvidia driver there was, then cause it was a gigabyte nvidia card i tried the manufacturers drivers too, NOTHING WORKED except now i could get into game but now everything is DARKK !!!

    Then i played with gamma tweaks in console, nothing helped. Somthing was not good at all and now i had dark gamma with stange colours everywhere.

    The one where scoresheets are coloured in green instead of the normal yellow and blue. Another thing is that the icons next to peoples names are silhouetted to just black, with no colour. Some textures in game will be black, even hives, and lots of other wierd stuff, my fps would be down too.

    and the most annoying thing, EVERYTHING is just DARKK, no gamma ramp settings didnt do ######.

    I love this program but dammmmmmmmmmm, it screws my NS

    i simply DISABLED it in Device Manager (it makes a virtual video card) and started a game.

    Instantly NS GAMMA went back BRIGHT !! AGAIN AND MAX FPS

    All in All, wasted 2 months of my life, hope this helps cause i found SOOOOOOO many people with this problem and no one has cracked it yet.

    I Have Q6600, HD4850, vista 64-bit and SAME PROBLEM with catalyst 8.7. But now in cat 8.8 problem is SOLVED!! Yeah you read right, problem is SolsolsolsolSOLVED!!!! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" />
