Characterization

I was reading the very old thread on creating female marines for NS2 and before I beguin I am very sorry to not have mentioned this earlier but I think taking an idea from other games and crafting it to NS2 would be good.
This idea would bring more customization to the game and allow charicterization. Although the first point I would like to make is I do not want the examples I put forward in other games to be taken wrong I am suggesting the idea is taken not exactly how the other games do it.
My 1st example is Dawn of Wars - "Army Painter"
This tool allows the player a huge ammount of Customization and Charicterization for there army, it allows them to change colour of 5 different set areas of all the different units within thier army and also add a badge which a appears on the individual units and a banner which hangs on buildings excetera.
<a href="http://imageshack.us" target="_blank"><img src="http://img529.imageshack.us/img529/1168/armypainterdowvf9.png" border="0" class="linked-image" /></a>
The idea I was taking from this system of Customization is the badge, people would be able to chose their own badges either from a set made by the NS2 team or made themselves and place them onto their marine. However on the Dawn of War - "Army Painter" the player is only able to place their badge where it is set withing the unit skin.
I do not think this would be personal and thus I am also suggesting the Black and White (1) - "Creature Tattoo" system
This tool allows the God to place a tattoo of about 18 kinds in many different locations and in any colour, I like this idea because it gave real charicter to the creature, whether you put it on his back or shoulder or even on his belly.
<a href="http://img141.imageshack.us/my.php?image=creatretattoobwlr6.png" target="_blank"><img src="http://img141.imageshack.us/img141/422/creatretattoobwlr6.th.png" border="0" class="linked-image" /></a>
So what I am suggesting is a way for a charicter to be able to pick a badge or a isgniture image or piece of text they would like to place on thier marine, and then chose where they place it. This would give real charicter to a Marine.
The main insperation for this idea came from Aliens and AVP2 the game in which we see a group of marine who have customized there equipment to the limit, most of you will know what I mean but for those who do not I was not able to find a copy of the marines from the film or the game but I did find fan art.
<a href="http://img141.imageshack.us/my.php?image=blackmarine1avp2bm8.png" target="_blank"><img src="http://img141.imageshack.us/img141/6042/blackmarine1avp2bm8.th.png" border="0" class="linked-image" /></a>
This one is a good example, It would allow for people of different ethnic groups to change their appearance, in this case he has black skin. Aswell as this the red writing and skull on his armour.
<a href="http://img141.imageshack.us/my.php?image=headbandmarine3avp2ne3.png" target="_blank"><img src="http://img141.imageshack.us/img141/4504/headbandmarine3avp2ne3.th.png" border="0" class="linked-image" /></a>
Headband, red writing.

Helmet, small red writing.

The positives from this are huge, it would deffenatly bring Charicterisation into NS2 and It would get rid of the generic boring marine.
However... The bad points.
- Its just marines
- You would either have to make a whole new one for Heavy Armour or just not have it applicable for Heavy Armour
- It is probably quite a high resource task and for how much joy is not known
- The marine skins may have already been done and set in stone
On these points this is my proposal:
A system is made in which a player can charicterize there marine with skin colour and two different badges(out of a pack of premade images) of which can be placed in maybe a dozen spots. Examples: Torso, High-Torso right, High-torso left, Back, Left shoulder, Right shoulder, Right knee armour, Left knee armour... Excetra..
It is not applicable for Heavy Armour, If you where given a very advanced piece of kit would you scratch holes in it and paint on it?
Ontop of this we presume that the Marine does not normal have such good equipment where as the his normal armour he always uses and thus has time to customize it... Would you customize a new piece of armour you just got in the middle of an alien invasion?
Also i suggest maybe a way of choosing different 'sets' of aliens, maybe 5-6 different kinds of every alien could be designed and then a player would be able to "mix-and-match" different models to create there own 5 different aliens.
For example they could pick gorge number 1 and onos number 2 and fade number 2 and skulk number 4 and lerk number 5... meaning that everytime they went lerk people would see there lerk number 5 but when they went onos people would see onos number 2.
If this whole thing is seen too over graphic for NS2 then i have a secondary request, Instead of designing 5 different alien skins for each alien create 5 of the same that random when you gestate. This would mean that a normal game would keep getting the same skin becasue all 5 are the same.
However if someone was to skin their game, they would be able to put 5 different fade skins in that they liked and thus have 5 different fade skins that people got as random creating diversity.
(Also i only just noticed the other thread on it and im sorry for posting another thread instea dof posting in it, however mine is slightly more of an "extreme" version of the other threads idea, shall we say... )
Just an idea, Thanks for Reading.

Yes, please!
(should be, I started it lol! Actually it's quite rare for me to start a topic. I mostly read with occasional replies.)
Not to bust your bubble but this concept was alluded in said "old topic", yet I don't think anybody has explicitly made that topic of it's own yet.
In any case, <b>vote <!--coloro:#00DD00--><span style="color:#00DD00"><!--/coloro-->yes<!--colorc--></span><!--/colorc--></b>
Not an option to paint.. Only add decals to stop abuse like that.
Although i was going to add there could maybe be a serverside colour, so the owner or administrator of a server could set the marine colours which aswell as giving each individual NSPlayer charicterization it would also allow servers to give themselves adit of charicterization... Just a secondary thought.
As for the idea itself, being able to customise the aesthetics of your character, always gets my vote.

<img src="http://www.dailyhaha.com/_pics/hello_kitty_vader.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />
less pink than i remember, actually.
but no, it's a good idea.
I shall post another thread with my idea of serverside colour schemes.
Did you read the 1st post?

The locations where a decal can be added are pre set
There probably should be a limit on how many can be added, I for some reason can see some people adding the largest allowed decal of a black square on all the locations allowed...
In an attempt to make the Marine as black as possible to allow him to hide easier.

Pulse rifle, instead the machinegun (this is because i love the sound of pulse rifle)
Same for the heavy machinegun. (If u are a fan of Alien u know that noise <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" /> )
Sometimes i downloaded skins (i like the originals) for marine estructures and weapons, but some servers kicked me for cheater for that cause <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad-fix.gif" /> , im not a cheater, i hate them, and the estructures the only change is the color, BLACK! more difficult to view, same for marine player, i changed for black colour and servers kick me (hard to play in dark maps when the enemy have an armor in black), can u solve it?. or is a problem of anti-cheat programs? thank u!
about your problem - don't use custom models! should work...
I consider shooting sideways shooting better because it means you got style, kid.

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/asrifle.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="::asrifle::" border="0" alt="asrifle.gif" /> i begin talking about customization of game, players and/or weapon and i finished talking about a problem whe i use custom models <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tsa.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="::tsa::" border="0" alt="tsa.gif" />
