When there aren't enough resources to fully equip everybody (i.e. me) I often just go on suicide missions. When you have lots of stuff like armor and good weapons, the goal is to stay alive. However, when you have nothing, you don't lose much by taking more risks. The whole start game staying alive doesn't really matter (unless you are trying to strategically secure an area). I have taken down lots of aliens, and fades with just LMG because they don't expect me to just rush them crazily. I plow right into them with my LMG and often get a kill before they kill me. If not, I just respawn and repeat.

This does NOT mean I'm not a team player. I *always* follow orders and help out first (and try to stay alive of course). But if there is nothing to do, and only then, I usually just go rambo and harrass the aliens to wear down their morale or think we are attacking somewhere we really aren't.

When I play commander, I HATE Rambos. Sure, occasionally they may do something noteworthy, but in the grand scheme of things I find that they hurt the team more often than they help the team. So generally, I try to ignore them. I'm not going to waste precious time trying to find and follow them around the map, just to give them waypoints that they ignore every single time.

Sure, if I have a spare second I <i>might</i> give them some health or ammo, but the "good group" of guys who actually listen and follow directions always get my attention first. Heck, there are a number of Rambos who I completely ignore when they are under my command. If only I could mute them completely (which includes text, voice chat, and popup alerts) to keep them from distracting me (WE NEED THIS FEATURE).

<span style='color:blue'><Typical Female automated Voice> "Marine, due to your refusal to follow directions, the commander has removed your channel from the COMM, and abandoned you to die like the POS that you are. Have a great day."</span>

    That would be fun! <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

Here are some things for you "Rambos" to consider:

    - When your commander is trying to take a room or setup a siege outpost ASAP, the more bodies he has the better. If I have 3 good guys, and 3 rambos, that means my main group has to be so much more careful. If all three get killed before they can respawn and return the the front (because you idiot rambos are filling up the spawn queue and are not down there to continue the work), the commander can often lose TFs and partially constucted Turrets because there is nobody else to build them. If only we could have had someone else to cover . . .

    - If your commander is seasoned, he will often not have a large RP pool. Why? Because he is spending it on upgrades, Gates, etc. And even if you Rambos find some corner on the other side of the map where siege would be perfect, your commander most likely doesn't have the RP to spare to setup YOUR requested base <i>and</i> the base he is actively trying to setup with the "Good Guys". Or he may be saving those points for something else, or he would prefer to assult the other hive where he has already setup Gate/Turret support. It's sorta like when everyone goes gorge on the A-team, and builds three hives without defending any of them. Very risky.

    - Spamming the COMM just makes it harder for the team.

<i>"Sir, I have found an empty node!"</i> <span style='color:RED'>"Soldier is under attack".</span> "I FOUND THERE BASE! SETUP TURRENTS!" <span style='color:RED'> "Soldier needs health." "Soldier needs Ammo."</span> "HEY! SETUP A F***ING BASE HERE ALREADY!" <span style='color:RED'>"Soldier is under Attack."</span> "HEALTH! HEALTH! GIMEM HELATH!" <span style='color:RED'>"Soldier was lost." </span> "STPID NEB COMM! YOU SUKC!" "HMG AND JP AT BASE!" "HMG AND JP AT BASE!" <i>"Sir, I have found an empty node!"</i> "HMG AND JP AT BASE!"

<span style='color:RED'>"Soldier is under Attack!" "Soldier needs Ammo."</span> "SIEGE HERE! I FOND ETH HIVE!" <span style='color:RED'>"Soldier is under Attack" "Soldier needs health" </span> "DAMMTI! STUPID COMM!" <span style='color:RED'>"Soldier needs Health"</span> <i>"Sir, I have found an empty node!"</i> <span style='color:RED'> "Soldier needs Health"</span> <span style='color:RED'> "Soldier needs Health" "Soldier was Lost" </span> "HMG AND JP AT BASE!" <i>"Are you going to setup this node or what?"</i>

And all of this is separate from the spam the main force generates or from alien attacks on other parts of the map, both of which the commander <i>really</i> needs to hear. And spam already increases once they get Fades.

Nope, while occasionally they may prove useful, Rambos generally hurt more than they help.

    Oh, one more thing:
THE COMMANDER KNOWS WHERE THE FREAKING RESOURCE NODES ARE YOU DING BATS! <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo--> YOU DON'T HAVE TO POINT THEM OUT!

You Rambos think you dont do anything bad to the team.. you loose no res, because you got no special equipment, etc...
But from the moment you die you do something bad to the team...==> filling up the spawn queue!
    And thats the best argument...
Someone who died while defending an outpost cant spawn, because you died while youre roaming around the map alone.

btw when u find a node.. u dont need to report to the commander
the commander KNOWS theres a node there
it shows up as a white dot i believe on the minimap
besides, the node is in the same place every time u play on the map <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

One marine going off to do something other than the comm told him can cause the mission to fail.
But when the comm isn't very good it may be better for some marines to show some initiative.

Playing marines reliate on teamwork and communication.

Maybe you should propose you plan to the commander and see if you can bring with you 1 or 2 more guys. This way you have a better chance of successfully achieving what you have on your mind.

Stick together and follow orders marine!

    Dismiss!!

Thanks Havoc. You really speak my mind. These Rambos are a real pain in the arse.
If I want a marine to scout a hive or a resource node, I will tell him. Normally I don't want him to attack the spot in the first place, as this draws unwanted attention to weak spots in the defences. But these 1337 H4x0rs just dont learn. So the aliens eventually learn what I wanted to do and get the defences up.

Bah people calling other n00bs should shuttup.
You don't want to run into new/inexperienced/unskilled/etc players? dont play pub servers.
People have to learn and not everybody can just decide to skip school by pretending a cough to play NS and become more "l33t".
Annoying "n00b" people are the ones just begging for "HA and HMG kplzthx!". But that isn't n00bism, it's st00pidism.
People should just chill, it's amazing how often people play for 2 weeks and reckon they mastered the entire game. Well I got news for ya yet, when I see someone call another playera n00b but getting owned 2 seconds later by a bunch of marines or a bunch of skulks (depending on the team) I wonder who the real idiot is.
Just chill people, its a game, some are good, some are better, some aren't very good. Have fun, if a lot of the people killed as much as they whined, they could win the game solo!

No. It has to do with <u>experience</u>, and experience comes with time. It is also reletive. We are all basically still newbies floundering around trying to figure things out, as the game has only been out for a month. Right now, EVERYONE is in the same boat. A year down the line, someone who's only been playing for a month will be called a newbie, and it will be more noticable simply because everyone ELSE has been playing for a year.

Pointing out the spawn queue is NOT a valid complaint. If commanders really are that concerned about the spawn queue, they can just build more infantry portals. Hence, this is why not all people are happy with Marine vs Alien spawn rates in larger games. There's nothing keeping a commander from building an entire team worth of infantry portals and just having a coordinated group of marines rush the hives.

Personally, I think it's kind of funny how all of you can step up onto a soapbox and complain about people going around as individuals. It simply goes without saying that some tasks need to be done surgically, and quietly. Now, if you have 3-4 people going off on their own in a 7 man team, I agree that could be a problem. But to say that /every/ time that /1/ person decides to try to get something done on their own there is a negative consequence, that's hardly reasonable. If you really believe that then you must have little faith in your fellow teammates.

As for the whole "n00b" issue, I generally don't give much thought to people who feel big when they use that term.
