<div class="IPBDescription">I wrote this small post in hope that someone might enlighten me.</div>Key:
M = Marines
A = Aliens
I = Myself

1. M - What are these classes that I hear about? How do I become in a class myself?

2. I + M - When I make my own custom server using the create server command (I do this to learn more about the game, I'm a hands-on kind of guy), it automatically starts with a commander. Can you tell me a way to make sure I can be the commander?

3. A - So there are 2 types of playing modes: Evolve Points and Resource Collector is that correct? Evolve points is like Level: Blah (+evolvepointsgoeshere) and resources are just make resource towers and gain resources to evolve, etc. Is this correct?

4. M - Is it true that more than 50% of the humans that play NS use aimbots, I mean come on seriously, who can turn 180 degrees to get a headshot on a skulk with Cereline?

5. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tiny.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="::onos::" border="0" alt="tiny.gif" /> - Is it really necessary to make the onos eat you, and you view the intestines? It's kinda awkward. If you leave it that way, why not make it like 5 second death instead... It's embarrassing to have a friend over watching a full-screen view of the onos living intestines.

6. M - My small summary is that marines use complete aimbots to rush and destroy with heavy armor... This goes back to classes, do you need a specific class to get the armor?

Well, if you can answer any of the above please tell me which number your answering and your answer, thank you for your time.

    To answer a few.

    A Marine is a marine is a marine.
    No classes on the TSA side.
    Marines can pick up equipment (welders/HA/JP/weapons).
    Sometime people refer to vanilla/JP/HA marines as classes.

    Aliens have 5 different lifeforms/classes: Skulk, Gorge, Lerk, Fade, Onos

    If you want to be the commander, just get near the CC and press use.

    The game modes are called co for combat and ns for classic or natural selection.
    In classic you gather resources by building res-towers over resources locations.
    In combat you get experience by killing and assist killing other players or damaging the hive/CC.

    Most veteran players left the game, but there are still a bunch of "hardcore skilled" players out there, though they usually hang out in combat.
    I am not sure how many people actually use aimbots, but back in the days when i quit it was roughly 5%. So one for every server. Most common were rate-hacks, which are not real hacks, because all you need to do is adjust your rates via the in game console to absurdity.

    If the Onos, dies while it is still digesting you, you will be released. Having to watch the digestion process is a way to remove the player from the game for a short time (which is the main point of it) If you think you get eaten too often, stop playing combat and play classic instead.

    Cause you were mentioning aimbots again: Make sure you play on vac enabled servers. Also play on servers that are not too big (8vs8 MAX) because the difference between alien and marine resource models heavily favours marines in big games as do the combat mechanics.
    If you want to see aliens raping marines play 3vs3 or 4vs4 <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink-fix.gif" />

    Thanks man, that answers just about all but my problem with the commander console with my own private server! =D
    So does anyone know about this weird happening? The command console already has a commander when I enter a private game, and I cant command! =[

    Hi and welcome to NS.

    I think that the problem you are having with the command console is because you have started a combat map (co_mapname) In this game mode there is no commander. The game is basically as Faskalia said, Deathmatch with Marines versus Aliens.

    If you want to use the commander feature you have to start a classic map (ns_mapname). This is also the bulk of NS, it is the RTS+FPS hybride that the game originally started out as. combat was added on later to make a more simplified version of the game available for people who don't want to be bothered with the RTS part of the game.

    Also some nice cheats for you to use if you are the only player ingame.

    sv_cheats 1, (this turns on the cheat mode)
    givepoints, (give you res)
    bigdig, (when you drop a structure it will be built automaticly so you can see what they do)
    endgame, if you want the round to restart for some reason

    All of the above you simply type in the console, which you can open up with the tilde key next to the 1 key (~)

    If it does not work you have to use some parameter when you start the game. Exit the game first though. Now in your games list in steam, rightclick Natural-Selection and choose properties.

    In this window you click "set launch options". in this field you simply add the following

    -dev -console

    Thats all, now the next time you start the game, the console will work and you have devmode on which will automaticly put you into cheat mode if you start a map trough the console.
