hi, im new in the forums, but i have been following the development of this game for a long time (since ns1).
Im from Chile(south America), and i study civil ingeneering.
I like to spend my free time modeling stuff. I have been using 3ds max since i was 15.
a couple of days ago i was looking at some concept art from ns2, and i thought it would be cool to make a model of one. i spent some days on that and i came with something and i wanted to show it here.

Here is the concept:
<img src="http://www.unknownworlds.com/cache/thumbnails/envconcept07_166x118.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />

and my model(its not textured and its a bit dark, sorry for that)
<img src="http://img216.imageshack.us/img216/6271/concepto01vd8.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />

another picture:(i can barely see this one, soryyy it took so much time to render)
<img src="http://img352.imageshack.us/img352/7508/concepto02sh5.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />

well that was it, i know its not "OMG that thing is awesome!" because it has no textures, and its not even finished jajaja.
well, what do you think? should i keep working on it or should i throw myself out of my window(jajaja)?
thanks for your replys, ahhi also wanted to ask what does that big machine does.

    not bad at all <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" /> have you tried using valve hammer ? then you could make it playable.

    it's 'hahaha'. it's just that they use 'j' instead of 'h'
    eg. the name 'Jose' "Ho-zay"

    a little update:
    <img src="http://img217.imageshack.us/img217/3898/concept01bmk1.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />
    used some texture on the floor from ns1, and a bump map that i made for it.

    <img src="http://img129.imageshack.us/img129/1950/concept02rk7.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />

    <img src="http://img246.imageshack.us/img246/8075/concept03ss7.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />
    i took this idea from another concept <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />

    <img src="http://img516.imageshack.us/img516/9096/concept04cj0.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />

    <img src="http://img215.imageshack.us/img215/8821/concept05gw1.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />

    well that's all for now

    do NOT make it pitch black.

    what's the point? you couldn't even see the art or the work that's gone into it then.

    <i>Really</i> nice looking. It probably looks better dark now because of the bright colored textures he has now. I'd guess he'll want to increase the overall lighting to bring out the details once real textures are in. It depends on what he wants to use it for. If it's just atmospheric screenshots then he may leave it dark. If it's going in a map he'll probably brighten it to show off his work.

    This must've taken you many hours of free time. Nice to see some of the concept art in 3D. Can't wait to see more of it textured. Do you think you could sketch out a top view map of what you have so we could see where you are going with this? Good work.

    Looks great again.

    regarding that bit on the front end, behind the monitor, between the two thick rectangular 'supports', leading to the coil part (- you know, the interlocking-plates part); that bit looks a bit too shallow on the model. and in fact (in the orig. concept art) it sort of starts out shallow, but the plates underneath the others get 'deeper', relative to the 'supports'.
    not sure if you know what i mean?

    edit: a bit crude, but..
    <img src="http://img337.imageshack.us/img337/2758/abitcrudebutfv6.png" border="0" class="linked-image" />

    though you've probably already thought of it and it just isn't complete..

    i made this texture to use it in my scene, it is supposed to be some kind of metal plate, but it looks like a concrete wall or something, so i dont know where to use it now jajaja.

    <img src="http://img212.imageshack.us/img212/3470/paredsd3.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />

    Seamless tiled:
    <img src="http://img223.imageshack.us/img223/7453/paredseamlessum5.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />

    it's free to use, if someone asks.

    EDIT:

    i've finished the metal plate i wanted to do! i think it looks awesome:

    That's great.
    edit: oh but, speaking of, you know that orange bit you have on the 'left' of the model, where is it on the 'right' side? i thought it was just a matter of perspective but still, it looks like it's missing, a little odd.

    and good job on the texture too.
