    exactly. I believe that a <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skulk.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="::skulk::" border="0" alt="skulk.gif" /> , <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tiny.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="::onos::" border="0" alt="tiny.gif" /> or <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tsa.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="::tsa::" border="0" alt="tsa.gif" /> symbolize all that NS is, as good as railgun, chainsaw or 12yo symbolizes everything what Quake is.

    I said ONE thing. you gave me three.
    and while naggy said skulk, i'm sure corpsman would have said the gorge.
    so it seems everyone differs on that.
    i might have said the skulk, though not the skulk itself, but wall-walking.

    and yet, it lacks any real impact.
    and that's all i'm saying, there's no real "trademark" or "hook" for NS.


    Also, I wonder how Twelve Years Old is the most immature someone can possibly be. I think it's you people that need to grow up in this regard. :/ Such bland internet cliches are unseemly.

    A good game doesn't have one thing that defines it. That's called a one-trick pony.

    For example, what would be the icon of HL? A crowbar? A headcrab? The lambda symbol which has almost zero gameplay impact? And you can't say Gordon's Face because YOU NEVER SEE IT INGAME.

    In my book, a game with no defining icon is usually better. It means it has incorporated an entire atmosphere, nay, even an entire fully functioning world. To be able to distill something that complex should be impossible. Granted, NS isn't an entire world, and actually I tend to dislike MMORPG's ideas of what a world is, but it's the idea of such complexity and that all components are important that makes a good game stand out from a bland time waster.

    About trademark of NS... the best trademark is the sole CONCEPT of this game (FPS- strategy). But you cant put this on a picture, right? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />
    Video trailers were QL, since they can show up what NS is really like.
    The truth is, NS is not forcing enough visual feel. Which is very important for a first impression, that may be very important for new players and growing NS society. No concept changes should be made at all if you improve a graphc designr a little bit.

    Beside visual design, more different marine models is something we all came up during this discussion, and thats not a bad idea. Of course, a final word from developers must be heard about that.

    For pro players visual design is not that important. You all know guys who play quake3 without any textures at all! But you have to become pro player, starting from n00b choosing some new game to play.

    If this game improves his visual design... then this would be a <b>perfect game</b> on the market!

    It is the crowbar. It is a symbol of Gordon the Destroyer. Simple, blunt, and directly applied to the problem, if bit obtuse.

    I dont think we sould speculate what IS trademark of NS, but rather what trademark SHOULD/COULD BE.

    Also i think that it has to do something with marine-side, since the "marines" are something familiar to everyone. They nead to be changed/improved a little bit.

    Maybe commander itself can be a NS symbol, but he is hard to visualise...

    Althou i am a little bit curious about those female warrior on the site banner. It cant be that all marines are now females in NS2 <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" />

    As much as I love the gorge, actually the skulk to me is it. It is the most basic, most fundamental alien. Like the US Marines. You might run out of bombs, batteries, chopper fuel, runway,whatever, but a Marine and his rifle is all you need baby. It's the most important thing in their "inventory." Like the carrier I was on a few years ago. Most people think about everything else but whats most important to us: keep the jets in the air. Even if we have a fire which takes out half the ship, if we can keep launching planes in war time, that's what we are going to do.

    Now I don't mean to say that without a skulk you can never win, or that the skulk is the ultimate "one" thing in NS, but to me it does kinda represent the game. The marines could have, but seeing as how they were always so fu%$*ing boring I don't see how it's possible. Jesus... you could simply add the ability to skin the marines and it would seem like a major overhaul!

    So anyways, yeah the skulk. Either that or the hive, kind of my "second choice."

    hey i got a idea about the HA

    but whit a closed head part (no helmet plz)
    and arms IN the armor (now there two: 1mechanical and 1 man arm)

    the weapons are in these "pods"
    that mean no hands anymore
    to reload, the weapons go in the arms and reload mechanicanly

    when i see this model and then the current marine disign, it need some work that it fit in ns2
    but not that much

    i dislike the current ns1 HA becouse he looks silly
    and stupid how he hold his weapons
    (he hold a lmg whit both hands)
    whit this pods he use only one hand and its dont look silly

    I agree, the fade is the symbol of the complexity and uniqueness of NS and is my choice for symbol as well. Gorge comes in as a close second. The symbol of a game isn't always what makes the most sense though, it's often the first distinctive thing a player will see (ie comm chair/hive).

    i used to allmighty google

    yeah its bulky
    but that come from the shoulders
    they can be replaced whit better ones
    and in the pic is no reference how big he is
    just add a fade whos a feet higher is

    i just mean that one hand is a mechanical claw
    and the other hand <i>is</i> the weapon

    there was a mod called dystopia (maybe you know)
    there was a HA too

    or bioshocks big daddys

    one arm was the weapon you decided and
    the other a arm was normal but whit a smg implemented (pistol)

    after reading the 1st 2 pages, i couldnt read any more, the bashing and torching of StarCraft was to unbearable.

    I like the HA '<i>pod</i>' idea, very much. Would make him cooler.

    As for what StarCraft suggested, easy to make skin models make the game all so much better. In the options in the menu, you can go to the 'Player Edit' and choose marine, you get some scrolls, one 'skin color' maybe a down arrow with 'armor types'. These will have no change in gameplay, just look, you can even add fu-cking sticker paints(logos) on shoulders. Choose female, or male. This would really add the players personal looks to the game, how they want to be seen ingame. You can even add a scroll for 'damage appearence' which adds bandages, holes, scratches, breaking armor.
    Hell, you can even do it for the aliens too if u fu-cking want to, add tabs to the top of the option menu with the types of aliens
    "Skulk" "Marine" "Onos" "Lerk" "Fade" "Heavy Marine" "Gorge" "Jet Marine"
    those can be your tabs, each can easly modified for player pleasure, to freakin da people.

    And with Dark's idea, you can even add 'hand type' for the heavy armor

    And it goes with Charlie's mantra(?) about humanising the marines; yet doesn't resort to WH40k space marine ( UT3? Gears of War?) unrealistic massive bulk with a tiny head popping out the neck of the suit..


    On another note, I don't really like the overall look (shape, silhouette) of the helmet on the female marine in the concept art.
