Alien Slowly Dying Is A Bad Bad Idea

Uhm, I can understand why this was put in, but you didn't take something into consideration. In the start game, marines that are organized are unstoppable vs skulks. What this now means with this dying thing is.

Build main base -> get one res node -> siege hive = marine win instantly

Did anyone actually consider this? I have done this as a commander successfully a few times now. Perhaps some sort of timer should be in place or this should be removed until a better way of ending the end game can be thought of.

Its a bug in 1.03. It was only supposed to go into affect when there are no Hives left. It was a typo, check the Bugs forum.

If the marines can pull that off, props to them, that means that they SHOULD'VE won. I'd say that if the marines can keep from being killed for the time it takes to secure a resource node, build a turret factory close to the hive, upgrade it to a siege factory, build the siege, and defend the siege AND turret factory for long enough to kill the hive, all while keeping the aliens from munching the CC and infantry portal back at the undefended base, that is a sign of a good, organized marine team. If successfully pulling an operation like that off doesn't win them the game, I don't know what would. Besides, the aliens would most likely lose in a situation like this even if they did not lose health with no hives left.

So what if the marines can win a rush... aliens do it all the time.

Yeah, no hive aliens = screwed. If the humans actually successfully pull off their rush, good for them. I personally dislike first-minute rushes, since the real fun of the game is in the later parts of it, but if the other team rushes, I don't complain, I just kill. If we lose off the bat, then that just means the next game comes sooner.

    I disagree totally.

If marines rushes Alien's hive at the beginning, most of the time They succeed. and while aliens are waiting patiently for their Resources to build another one, they die? So even if they lose it at the beginning, there's no fighting chance?

WRONG! I've been in numerous games where our hives were down at the beginning due to mad marine rush, but we managed to get another 2 hives back up and faded against HAs. we eventually won.

This is possible, and should not be destroyed because of this gadget.....

If it is not to be removed, at least I hope it happens only after a certain time limit...

or make it so that it will be activated only if you have 3 or less players on your team... or something. IF there are more people suriviving, most likely at least one person is trying to build an other hive...

    Wish more players thought that.

I agree with that and I wish everyone would stop bitching about every little thing. Suck it up

I've also played a few games where we rushed the alien hive and killed it, thought we had won the game, only to have the skulky little devils pop up again and eventually win the game. As Yogi Berra once said, "It ain't over till it's over."

there has to be some sorta way to discern if theres a gorge about with any chance of building a hive and redressing the balance of the game. but thats the hard part. in essence i reckon its a good idea, but in practise, there are always gonna be times when its frustrating cos you reckon you could get the hives back up, and then maybe just maybe win.

I believe this is a completely fair fix and im glad flayra implemented it. Sure people may whine about it, but youre not looking at both sides of the picture. Do marines stand a chance when their cc is destroyed and they dont have a backup cc?

So, if a marine cc gets destroyed, they may have 4k resources and they still wouldnt be able to build another cc, because in order to build a cc, it requires a commander to place it. It is only fair that aliens cant build up another hive (and they can, if they already have the resources and a gorge ready) when their last hive dies.

Try to look at both sides of the issue before complaining.

Here's how, Gourges are immune from the Count-down, Unless somone goes Skulk into vents the gourges it should be fine and gourges can't run away very fast or hide in dark corridors

Do the jet packed marines hiding in vents get a countdown when there cc and spawn points are dead?

No, but once found and engaged by an alien... ALL other aliens know where he is....

Does this countdown thing stop when a hive is finished or its building? It should be when its starting to build. You know how long it takes to finish a hive??!? I barely played 1.03.

About marines hiding, theres always scent of fear to find them too.

I played on a beta 1.03 server recently as aliens. Just before our third hive was destroyed, I started one of our other hives building. I started dying due to this feature but I was near the incomplete hive so it kept me alive until the hive was complete and my team started spawning back in.

This feature is welcome and totally fair in my opinion. Just how realistic is it for the aliens to win after having all three hives destroyed at ANY stage of the game? What usually happens is someone hides until they can get into an unprotected hive and try to start it building. Any group of marines that can take out the first hive immediately won't have any trouble keeping the other two down.

To complete my story from the first paragraph, we lasted all of ten minutes.

MY question is how long does it take to come into effect, is it as soon as hive is down, or is there a grace period that would allow an injured skulk wiht a mass of resources enough time to run to a hive location, evolve to gorge and start a hive up. Ive TWICE managed to run away, eveolve to Gorge and rebuild a hive, and ive seen it happen in MANY games (recently that is, it seems that most people are deciding to fight it out, rather than go ready room as soon as they start to lose) Sure we lost the game, but this happened twice in one gae (we had 3 hives, managed to lose them (Bad co-ordination on our part, good comm strong and capable marine team) first we lose all hives, I run off and start new hive, we make a new stand, a few were still Fades, we fight back the turretfarms as fades (Comm wasnt totaly smart, he left a turret farm but no marines, me an another guy just plowed through it) and then we lost our hive, a gorge manages to get to another hive, and setup some defense (Hive was covered by sentries that were too close for me n friend fade to destroy, had we taken the time we couldve liberated the hive entirely but we decied on a rush to the factory, getting us both killed) hive goes up, skulks start to spawn, we were THIS || close to retaking Sewer when HA/HMG/GL 'Rines come walking through and wipe us out. I enjoyed it, it was a really tough game, we managed to stage a fightback twice, but wouldnt have done so with the Bugs die when hive dies. Our fades were clearing turret farms for at least 2 minutes after last hive was dead. we wouldnt have made it were it not for Regen and a few well hidden Defense chambers. I think that it is a good idea, but in practice, can end a game prematurely. (although getting that lamer skulk hiding in a vent is a good thing, ending a game before its truly over is a bit sad)

I pretty much agree with that if you were a gorge and you were at a hive that was completely undefended and you were waiting for a few more resources and you die because of a time bomb? Whats that about? Thats like putting a marine time bomb when he couldnt knife a hive to death or get another CC. I don't agree with it at all. Example, I was a gorge, had all my resources, no hives, I built a hive and it got killed I was loosing HP cause of this time bomb, and I built another, if it wasn't for the bomb I had a semi-chance. Need something better and I can't think of it at the time .

Ok I thought about this a bit and I think it should have one more condition:
The timebomb should not take effect unless the marines have at least one CC and one IP.

Currently if both teams rush and manage success, then neither team has a spawnpoint, but the aliens die by default.
