Lamest Tactic Ever

On the verge of cheating
I was in the game yesterday, where I witnessed the lamest thing I have seen to date in Natural Selection. A minute or two into the game, one of our Gorges build a Sensory chamber in the middle of our hive, then switched teams to Marines. This completely crippled us. By the time we got a second hive, they were already moving against our Offensive Chambers, and with no defensive chambers to back them up, we lost our hives rapidly.

There really needs to be a way for Aliens to destory their own structures. =(

It's not as bad as it sounds. Cloaked skulks are a dangerous thing when you don't have a movement sensor or heavy armor. However, the resources that go into making the sensory could mess up your build order, I suppose, and that would be nasty in the game start.

u duno wuts more lame.... have u seen one bloody lame marine rush to commander seat n start making 10 spawn portals? then he will F4 n join da aliens.... while the alien rush is en route.... unless the marines camp really well.... marines r normally all taken down in the 1st rush...

that is wut i call lame.

another one.... 2-3 aliens join marines... and vote the commander out... before goin back to aliens... but i think this is somewhat fixed by the team balancing thing - still happens though...

man.. i duno if i shd post this ='[

ive won multiple games with sensory chambers as a first chamber.
As for team switching, that won't be a problem in 1.03!

1.03 says that a person cannont switch teams when joining observation or a team and going back to the ready room, but cant a person just reconnect instantly and join the desired team?
  • KitsuneKitsune Join Date: 2002-11-09 Member: 7843Members
They could try to disconnect/reconnect, yeah, but that would take a minute to do, and they could only do it if the teams weren't put into imbalance by them leaving in the first place. 5 on 5 game, '1337lla|V|a' screws over a team and leaves. But then it's 5 on 4, so the game wouldn't let him join the other side.

Many people dont know how to type retry in console, and it is so much work the other way and takes a while that it will discourage many.

That guy sounds like a big-time **obscenity**, to be sure. But you should still be able to make the most of it when you have a sensory chamber first. Here's my theory: offense towers provide stationary defense of an area. So do cloaked skulks. A skulk would probably be MORE likely to take down a marine then a bunch of offense and defense chambers, plus they can move anywhere and the gorge doesn't need to spend resources on them. And it's much worse if you make offense chamber and nobody shows up, than if you're cloaked as a skulk and no one comes by. You haven't wasted 16 resources. The downside: It's boring for the skulk.

Every game I play the aliens choose defense first, when they could do just as well with sensory if they only LEARNED HOW TO ADAPT.

i dont understand, what is so much work which way?
if you mean reconnecting i usually do it in 5 seconds.

and the guy is a real ahole he'll just do it anyways and leave, or wait for another person to join the game and go aliens while he goes marines. and yes, i know if the server is at its max he couldnt do that, still...

Whats wrong with sensory chamber? Theyre pretty useful, can make hive sight better. Try putting one outside the marine spawn sometime. Its pretty effective, try and youll see why.

Yeah.. pretty effective at spamming your whole team with "The ene-.. The ene-.. The ene-.. The enemy app-.. The ene-.. The enemy approa-.. The enemy approaches."

And most of the time, marines don't knife a sensory, then cap it with a pistol. Or LMG.. whatever.

Hrm...someone once said that sensory chambers periodically damage enemies that have been parasited (~10 damage or so per "tick"). Is this true? If so, then having that early sensory chamber isn't really that bad...

I hate tactics that involve switching teams, hiding in vents or something really ridiculous like that. This game is very volatile in that aspect. It sucks to sit for hours trying to get a squad of marines out of the vents. ugh....

god, i hate pepole who do that, just today that same thing happened to me. i think carapace is way better than cloaking early on in the game
  • KatsuroKatsuro Join Date: 2002-11-02 Member: 4809Members
Stick one or 2 up outside marines base and see how many you parasite before they get bored an kill it.
