Extremely Poor Taste

Bad "cheating".. Don't do this.
I was in a game and one of the players on the alien team insulted another. Now, the "cheaters" were on opposite teams and looking at the other's screen. The marine player pointed out his hate for that comment, and went on to explain his friend is sitting right next to him. This is EXTREMELY poor taste as it allows you to gather the other team's tactics! If one just planned an attack and a player's friend reads his screen, that attack is **obscenity** beyond belief.

My friend and I always do this, but don't look at eachother's screens.

So all LAN parties are stupid?

You will always have the idiots and such. And you will have the ones where a friend comes over for a day or two, and his computer only fits beside yours. Who could resist looking over? I do it sometimes when my friends bring their comps over and we play

I mean its in bad taste to "cheat" that way. If your at a lan party, just divide the room into each team and shove a partition in between. I don't mind you LANning together, just don't DO THIS. PLEASE.

I can't say I disagree with the original poster. Don't ghost. Try to resist it, or try to be on your roommate's team. I'm not going to get real upset or it or say it's the end of the world, but its something that should be avoided.

I was reading a three-year-old Nintendo Power, and there was a blurb on Starcraft 64. It had two person play with a splitscreen. How stupid is that? I can't find the magazine right now, but it said something like "It seems like you could cheat with this, but since you're paying so much attention to your screen you wouldn't look!"

So much attention that I couldn't glance down and see exactly where my opponent's base was from the start?

yea, this is my one gripe about the console fps. Like my friends all want to get together to play halo.
And Im like, not only is my screen sliced into a nice 5.5 inch portion, but i know where you are. I use to tear people up in twisted metal 2. just look, oh hes there, turbo there. RIP.
And once for cs, i was a t, and my friend a ct, and we were chattin on the phone.
and we tipped each other off. But one time I had him in my sights and told em, oh yo , guess what? and he said what, and i headshot em good.
    h4w.

I once was at someone's house, and his TV was about 11". Seriously. And we try to play four-player splitscreen Burnout. It was sort of interesting..

IMO, the only games that work console splitscreen are racing, because you don't really need to know where your opponent is. FPSs are bad, and strategy games even worse.

That guys a f***, and so is his friend. I hold some honour amongst gamers. Ill only look, if its just me vs a friend and I KNOW hes camping it up, but id hardly ever llok, rather just go hunt him down (he likes to snipe) At a LAN you usually sit with your pals and all go same team, (Least has been my experience) and even at a house LAN, you try to spread the comps out a bit so its not completely obvious.

Well, console fighting games could also work splitscreen but...

    Why?

Having several people near by is fine as long as there not using it to an unfair advantage(ie cheatinG). Hell i love hearing the "aaaaww **obscenity** off chomp" come from the other side of the house when you bite down on your mate playing as a marine Simplest way to think of it.. your playing for your team not for your friends, make the game more fun for them by playing your best for the team your on, not just so you/they can win and you'll be right

This discussion is so dumb as to be ludicrous.

I personally think that split screen FPS on console isnt too bad. Goldeneye (best game on 64) was a blast for several months 4-way split screen. We played liscense to kill (toe shot kills or better yet a heat wave from a nade 50 feet away). I think it cut down on the camping and made hiding more interesting. Since you can look off the other guys screen and you know when he's coming, while all he sees is the wall your staring at. Made for some interesting games.

i've never understood the split screen fps... one doesn't even have to look up/down/left/right... if i've played the map enough, my peripheral vision picks up on where they MIGHT be.

as for playing next to each other... sometimes it cant be avoided.. my roommates and i have all our puters in one room. we often play the same game.... in the same server. teams dont really bother us. i can hear what hes saying to his team.. and he can hear what i say... (all hail voicecomm!) but neither of us devulge the other teams plans... we play for fun, and its no fun when your carefully laid plans are ruined by anything other than simply engagement.

there will always be ppl who play next to each other.. theres no way to stop them. you just have to hope that they appreciate the game for what it is.. and play it with some form of honour.
