Yay Patch!

Big thanks to Flayra & co. for getting 1.03 out the door before taking the holiday break. No more readyroom cheaters! No move 6 vs. 4 games! Carapaced Fades that can actually be killed! More appropriately costed siege turrets! I'm seeing pure love in all of the changes. A little shame about the knife range, that'll make life harder for people like my roomie who love to stab stuff to death, but the honest life-expectancy of a knifing marine was pretty non-existent anyhow, so it shouldn't make any real difference.

Thanks for all your hard work and perseverance at getting this great mod polished, and especially for not caving in to the whiners. My roomie 'n I should be getting our shirts in any day now, and'll wear 'em with pride.

I don't like the "lose health when no hives" features, but all else seems pretty good.

    Yay!

Fixed melee weapons in vents! No more invulnerable jetpackers! Siege turrets now cost a reasonable price! No more spamming! Xenocide and bilebomb work again!

I'm still confused to all hell about the team switching though. What if someone wants to switch sides for an honourable purpose - like evening the sides when a few enemy players drop?

Well, can't. So, once people start leaving, the leak will become a flood, til there is a 5 player difference, at which point its game over.

No more exploiting of the ready room, good, tired of telling the damn gorge to shut up and stop telling people to cheat.

    GAHHHHHHHHH

    things to note:

you can't change teams once you have joined 1 (I can't balance the teams if some one leasves)

if one team has 5 nmore players then the other team GAME OVER!

you loose 2 hp per something if you don't have a hive up/growing, meh

I am worried about this patch (I like all the bug fixes but the rest is sorta, eh)

Yeah, the hive thing seems dodgy to me. I've had MANY games in which a single gorg was able to rebuild a hive and we've actually come back to win, now this will no longer be possible. Do Marines have a health count down once the alst Inf Port goes too? If not, they should to match this hive nonsense thing.

Yea, if the aliens take damage when they have no hives, the marines should take damage when they have no CC/inf portal. It is only fair ;\

They do take damage when they have no CC or IP. It comes in 75HP chomps from the teeth of rushing Skulks, giddy on the adrenaline and taste of human blood.

All in all, I like the controversial "die with no hives" bit. You can stay alive, but it takes a bit of preplanning and some luck to avoid being found out.

But you know who will love it even more? The people at gaming cafes, where you pay by the timeslice. No more waiting for that last Skulk to die to get on to the next round!

    Huhr?

So, if you are on a team that has 1 more player, a person can't decide to go to the other team?

Or if some of the other team leaves, you can' t even it up?

    I'm confused.

Sorry but I think this is a load of onos dung. No one has seen MANY games where a single gorge comes back to make a win.

Regarding the team switching, once you've seen the game from one perspective, you cant play on the other side. This prevents lamer aliens from grabbing comm and recycling everything, and prevents lamer marines from joining aliens initially in order to see where the hive is and then switching to marines.

With this the case though, the only way for teams to even out if some of one team starts leaving is by NEW players joining the server. People already playing wont be able to even it out.

I guess it's a trade off then. Maybe next patch this can be a server variable?

actually there was something similar to that no hive, you die, principle.. On 1.02 I killed a gorge who had just build a hive in a well-defended area, and the game was over b/c it was their last hive.. So I guess the building hive thing has been an issue for a while.. and it wasn't like I was going to let the hive build all the way, so I can understand why the game was over..

I now respect the no hive, die thing.. I still think it's lame, but i respect it

And its possible to use admin mode, and its possible to dont allow other models than default, and the rr bug is fixed, and the siege bug is fixed, and much more..

    I love this patch

what about if its not a public server?

Im playing with all my mates and 2 on the marines side have to go so either we have to play for the rest of the game with marines 2 down or restart the game? thats bull.

What about if one of these people who switchs sides to find out the location of the hive (never seen it or heard about it happening before 2day), just leaves the game and then comes back in. Does it keep track of Won Ids, Ip addresses will they only beable to join the marines?

    I like everything else tho.
With no hives they take damage every 2 secs, does it say how much damage? presumably a gorge could get the res's to start building a hive after the count down begins so theres still a chance of a comeback.

And thank god! i can use Q to whip my pistol out! yay!

If you really, really want to switch teams to cheat (you loser!) or balance (you saint!), you have to leave the server and log back on. That takes a minute or two to do, though, so wannabe team-switching cheaters should be very hampered by that.

    edited November 2002
A minute or two? Let's see, leaving is about 3 seconds, waiting for the loading screen to go is about 5 seconds, actually loading the game is about 10 seconds, and getting to the team of choice from the RR is about 15 seconds.

    3
    5
    10
    +15
    ------
    23 seconds.

    Hardly a minute or two.

Edit: the Hive gone = damage to aliens is a great idea. People are going on as if all aliens instantly die when the hive is lost, but it says

QUOTE

Aliens now lose health when they no longer have any active or growing hives (damages every 2 seconds, all players hear countdown, ignores armor). This is done to speed up the end game and prevent llamas from hiding in vents to prolong game.

That's hardly and instant death, and I'm assuming very little damage every two seconds. Because it doesn't give a specific number, maybe it's race-specific -- skulks lose 2 hp per tick, onii lose 20.
