Most people on this forum seem to think that the in-game PS Editor is not working, but that's not true. At all. It got fixed for NS 3.0 Beta 3 (IIRC)

This isn't specifically to learn using the env_particles_custom entity. But if you want, there's a guide <a href='http://pstutorial.tripod.com/' target='_blank'>here</a>.

So, how do you edit a PS ingame?

Well, you can use listps to find the name to your PS, but since you defined the name in the env_particles_custom, you should now that already...

Anyways, open your console and type "editps mycoolps" without quotes, and replacing mycoolps with the name of your env_particles_custom (obviously...)

Now, what we did back on the NSTR2 days was to type toggleeditps in console, right? Yes, but this isn't NSTR2 and we didn't have Steam (it looks like an issue of the new console)... so, in order to make it work bind toggleeditps to a key, I have it bound to F3, if you don't know how to do it, open your console and type: "bind F3 toggleeditps". You can change the key if you want, obviously.

Now, close your console, and hit the key you have bound the command, and enjoy the editing <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Oh, and it'll take a while until NS "starts" the particle systems, so don't worry if you load the map and don't see them instantly.

how annoying, this is great but i dont get it to work
i was testing this in a room with hera_fog and named it "fog", and then i wrote editps fog and ns found it and "suggested" i pushed f7 (where i have bound toggleeditps now) and when pressing f7 i only get the mouse pointer and no slides

when you get the pointer, right click, and press the key again, it should work

I find, that if I got the pointer, but not the sliders, or the sliders and not the pointer, that if I alttab, I will lose the pointer if I got it and thus if I press my toggleeditps bind, I will get the sliders and the cursor.

But however much I enjoy using those sliders and changing those values I see neither "the small white circle" nor any other particle effect. Could someone explain to me what I should do, as this does not happen in the tutorial, nor did I find any other suggestion on the forums. I wait 30 seconds, 60 seconds, 300 seconds, I still get no effect to appear, either as a readyroom player, nor if I join a team.

I tried using NSPSEdit 3.0b3, but after the first time running it, I now just get it to crash within 0.1 seconds after opening it.

I am trying to get a particle system to work in my map roughly like the one in ns_origin in Power Core, south of biodome, northwest of xenoform. I can't find a custom sprite Cadaver used for this, so I assume that it is done with a standard one, but I have no clue how to accomplish this. Can anyone explain it to me, or point me to a tutorial or another information source?
