good xbox 360 games?

considering getting one...
so ive got around 20 ps2 games that im selling to a friend. getting 100 bucks for all of them, which is much better than what gamestop would give me (around a dollar for each of them).

the only ps2 games i play anymore are the guitar heros, which i play a lot.

im considering selling those as well, along with my ps2, and getting an xbox 360 so i can get a good version of rock band.

what im wondering is will getting a 360 would be worth it? namely, are there many great games that i can play and come back to for a long time?

personally im not much of a fan of shooters on consoles, especially when i have the option of getting them on the pc, but im still open to suggestions. what are some of everyones favorite xbox 360 games?

I recently got a 360 and I haven't been wowed so far. seems like the best games are the shooters, and I'm in your boat - have trouble getting into shooters on a console. Haven't been wowed by gears or dead rising or crackdown, and that's all I've tried so far. live arcade is pretty sweet though... but spending like $500 to play casual games is harsh. I kinda feel like the thing is aimed at a younger demographic, and I'm an old, decrepit monster.

A 360 has about five good games that you can't get on the PC. I'd pass if I were you.

The only thing that comes to mind is that Ninja Gaiden 2 will be coming out for it soon, but other than that, I can't really think of one. DoA4? Maybe a Fable sequel? Burnout?

If you don't want shooter games, you are barking up the wrong tree. You'd be better off getting a Wii.

Depends on what you're looking for. Mistwalker, the studio that the creator of Final Fantasy started, is making games exclusively for Xbox. Other than that there's ~5 games that I can think of that the 360 is worth getting for. Everything else that's good is on PC as well.

I'm loving all the following:

Halo 3
skate.
Call of Duty 4
Gears of War(better on PC apparently, extra content)
Rainbow Six: Vegas
The Darkness
Forza Motorsport 2
Bioshock(Its a bit harder on console because of the control scheme, and believe it or not that really does make it work so much better)
Ace Combat 6
Project Gotham Racing 4(######ING YES DRIFTING WITH CONSEQUENCES THANK YOU)
Crackdown

Things that are fun(not loving, probably rented or a demo):
Stranglehold
Tomb Raider Legend
Blue Dragon
Overlord(works better on console)
Viva Pinata
Shadowrun(really, it is a good game. Takes a long time to get into though)
Burnout: Revenge
Dirt(demo)
Stuntman: Ignition(demo)

Things I should/need to buy:
Guitar Hero 2(maybe 3 too)
Condemned(The first game I played 'cause I rented, HOLY ######ING ###### THIS GAME IS AWESOME)

Things I'm buying this week:
ASSASSIN'S CREED
Sorry. Had to emphasize that. I'm uh, also getting Super Mario Galaxy for my Wii...

And to seperate for your convenience, the games that aren't shooters or better on PC:

skate.(I cannot emphasize this enough. This game is NOT Tony Hawk by any means. Its a million times better in every way and is just plainly one of the best games I've ever played. If it had better netcode, less load times and better-described missions/goals, it'd be GOTY material, seriously)

Forza Motorsport 2(Probably the best driving game on the planet. Its amazing, and hard to describe why, beyond ultimate customization and AMAZING netcode that makes online racing nother less than perfection)

Ace Combat 6(Though I should de-emphasize this, as this is mostly coming from the demo. But it IS fun, I can say that. And will impress your family. My parents tried to play it 'cause it looked so neat to them)

Crackdown(Fun fun fun fun fun exploration game with a mediocre shooting game. The 'official' goal is to end crime in the city, the real one is to get all the Agility Orbs. Which are on top of high buildings.)

Guitar Hero 2('nuff said)

Condemned(It may technically be a shooter, but considering you get a only a few times throughout the game with maybe 3 or 5 shots in it, the melee combat is the real awesome part. Probably one of the most atmospheric games I've ever played, and genuinely awesome.)

Assassin's Creed(Can't comment as I haven't played, but I think the early reviews put it in a place of contention. I'll talk about it later this week.

Rock Band(Haven't played it, but really, how much can they screw this up?)

All said, I think the 360 is the best console out right now and an awesome offering- frankly, in terms of pure gaming content, superior to PC at the moment(/sad). And definitely above Wii and PS3, no contest.

Keep in mind that of the "not shooter or PC" games Quanaut listed, Condemned, and Assasin's Creed are PC games, and Guitar Hero 3 is for the PC also. Forza and Ace Combat 6 are both examples of games in genres that have really amazing offerings on the PC that are as good if not better than those two. Crackdown and Skate, well... not worth a 360 by themselves.

I'd add Dead Rising and Chromehounds to any list of games to consider, though.

This statement seems a bit ridiculous. For one thing, you could simply consider all of the Xbox 360 titles above that're also available on PC, but you could also briefly consider all games available on PC. Freeware/web games/oldies/games that aren't heavily marketed/etc. There never was, and probably never will be, a moment where gaming on Xbox 360 surpasses gaming on PC, especially in terms of pure gaming content.

Off the top of my head, Crysis, Company of Heroes: Opposing Fronts, Sam and Max, every mod for any game at all, ever, Supreme Commander: Forged Alliance, Hellgate: London, The Witcher, and indy games like Dwarf Fortress are all things you can't get anywhere but the PC. Plus, stuff like The Orange Box, Gears of War, Assasin's Creed, whatever are better on the PC (although I guess since Creed isn't out yet we can't know for sure).

Frankly for the money you spend on a 360, you could buy Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines, Deus Ex, The Orange Box, Call of Duty 4, Bioshock, Sam and Max: Episode 1, and Company of Heroes off of Steam. And have money left over. Hundreds of dollars.

I'd like to know where you are getting all these free computer upgrades. For the cost of building a computer that can run bioshock I could buy an xbox 360 and a gigantic HDTV.

*edit for clarity

As for the main topic at the moment DoA4, Mass Effect, Ninja Gaiden, and Rhythm & Dance type games would be just about the only thing you can't already play on the pc.

For the cost of building a computer? Maybe. For the cost of upgrading to an 8800GT? Hah, no. Buy an 8800GT and you'll still have money left over. Besides, you can build an even cheaper computer if you don't want to run evrything on high. It'll still be at a higher res than the XBOX360. If you want to account for the cost of building a blazing fast computer from scratch, you have to factor in a gigantic HDTV to the 360's price, or else you're comparing something running at lower specs with something that can run Crysis on Ultra High.

Games for the X360 you might be interested in:

- Eternal Sonata: looks like an Ace JRPG
- Katamari Damacy
- Mass Effect
- Assassin's Creed
- Devil May Cry 4
- Overlord

well yes, but while they're not an incentive alone, then I'd daresay I'd rather have Assassin's Creed and Overlord on my X360 - simply because of the gaming 'enviroment' of the console is different from the PC. So, yes, they're not reason enough alone, but they help a bit :S

My girlfriend just bought me Guitar Hero III for the Wii and I'm loving it. There are a couple of small differences between it and the ps2 version, namely the wii-mote. It vibrates when you activate start power and a "plink" noise comes from it's speaker when you miss a note. So all in all it's not much different. I don have a 360 or a ps3 and I'm probably not going to buy either because I recently upgraded my computer.

well maybe ill just stick with my ps2 and hope that rock band on the ps2 doesnt suck. thats pretty much the only reason i would get a 360 anyways.

speaking of which, has anyone heard anything about the ps2 version of rock band? how will it be different than the other versions?

And still, strangely, I would bet it feels more cinema like and immersive playing on that TV. I'm not saying one is better than the other, but PC gaming and console gaming are like apples and oranges, they are different things.

1920*1080 compared to 1280*1024

It's a different feel though, just like some movies are way better when watched at the cinema than when watched on a normal tv. I don't prefer (first person) shooters on 360 (even though I got bioshock for it), some games just "feel" like console games. I prefer playing action/adventure/third person */... stuff on a console.

I was initially excited about Assassin's creed, but I've decided to not buy it. I've read all the reviews, and I just can't help but feeling that what is good about the game is repetitive and in the end, fairly skill-less. I applaud them for making a complex game that appears to have a low learning curve, but I am not a casual gamer, and I like my games to be challenging.

If you are deciding between a 360 and a PC, then I think the PC is still the clear winner with the exception of 2-3 360 exclusives. Halo is NOT a reason to buy a 360, it is the same old action fps sci-fi shooter you've played through many times before. Halo3 multi-player is good fun, but nothing compared to TF2 on the PC IMO.

To me, the main reason to consider a 360 right now is Mass Effect, and possibly Forza 2 if you like to burn virtual rubber. Other than that it is, IMO, a poor mans PC. If, on the other hand, you want a console to compliment your PC gaming experience, then the 360 is a fine choice. You can get good gaming experience from the type of game you would traditionally shun on your PC. E.g. Sports games, arcade blasters etc.
