<div class="IPBDescription">Lets expand our minds</div>I'm hoping I can use this post as an act of receiving help. I'm in need of something in particular. Before an admin moves this thread to the other category dedicated to servers, just please think about the fact that this post contains various elements, not only pertaining to the Server help section. I also wanted to get this post to be seen by the most people possible so that someone would be able to help me find the best source for this. I will give the post a while to attract attention. So if you can help, please reply to this thread to keep it alive. I am trying to enhance the way people think. I want the ultimate challenge to be before us all. That way we can improve the way we think by adapting to new ideas. New ideas such as the type of enhancements that you wish Natural Selection 3.2 had but simply doesn't right now in its basic form. Enhancements that come in the form of "plugins". Ahh yes, the development community within AMXX is full of some of the most intelligent people in this entire world. I really appreciate their work on providing help for the NS community. I know that the amount of players has dropped dramatically. But I am willing to bring in new players to this game by providing FREE Half Life accounts. No, I'm not going to use cracks to do so, I will actually pay for these account regularly and give them away to people who are interested in advanced gameplay. Here's the kicker, I'm going to do this all with a brand new server. The problem is, I need to know which server is the most reliable, and also which person is willing to make a deal with me to simply pay for how much the actual cost is to host this server. I do not want them to worry too much about profit since I am doing this to help people, not to get someone else to steal my money, especially if they have enough of it already. Some of us don't get as much money as others. The rich can help the poor in this scenario. I need a server with certain requirements. My demands are that the server doesn't crash randomly, ever. Maybe we can work together to figure out what it takes to make a server run flawlessly. Also, I need the server to be able to handle loads of people. I'd say 32 since that's the current highest I've seen on the pub list. So a fast internet connection is required. Fast enough to handle people playing from other countries as well. Is there anyone able to provide what they currently own to make a dream become a reality? Someone who loves this game as much as I do would surely step in and provide such a favor. I'm the kind of person who can spend plenty of time helping people and improving the server. I have A LOT of free time and I would like to use it to help people expand themselves, mentally. This game we play is currently the greatest one to be made available to us internet users. Why? Well, not only is it made to run on the most low end machines out there, meaning higher framerates than these newer games, but also because this game is the MOST advanced first person shooter available at this time. The developers of this game were pure geniuses. This game is something that will go down in history as innovation at its finest. I wish to help the whole community by configuring a server to utilize the greatest gameplay elements possible. I have massive knowledge and massive dedication to learning more so I am able to make sure I pursue this idea into the point in which we reach perfection. There is a lot of life in this game. The most advanced video gamers excell in this game but it's also a game in which newcomers are mystified by the various elements they've never seen in a video game before. So, is anyone willing to help make this happen? I've had a bit of history. The website is as follows...

Its one paragraph that fills up more than a full screen.

You dont say s*** of worth in the first 6 lines, just rhetoric about changing peoples minds and such. People done read posts because its fun to read; we read posts because we hope people have something meaningful to say. You dont, or at least not in your first many lines.

If you had paragraphs, we could skip to the next one in hope that you'd finally start getting somewhere. But you dont. So we stop reading and explain to you the basics of english writing.

I know, I ran the previous version of this server incorrectly. I had believed that I could trust other NS players to think like I did. Unfortunately, a lot of people suffer from pain that causes them to take out their aggression on others around them, which in turn, meant abusing their admin powers. The problem was that I gave everyone who joined the server regularly, admin permissions. I made them all have the same exact power that I had. This time around, I believe it's important to not use punishment on anyone, unless they are blatantly using some sort of behavior that makes everyone on the server upset. I will only have one admin for the server. I will be that admin. I think about the way things are going on and I am able to make positive, if not the best, judgements on what needs to be done to make things alright for most of the people who are playing within the server. If I am not able to do this, I will constantly listen and read from my fellow supporters who keep in contact with me. I will listen to their opinions and try to find the best solution to take care of things. But about the previous poster stating he was banned for skill, that won't happen unless the other players do not like to have that person around inside the server anymore. What we used to have was a feature in which players had the power to ban other players without having admin permissions, taking place within a vote in which every player could participate. This was all part of a semi-complex menu system that offered various extra commands. This won't be abused anymore because the person who initiates the ban will have his/her name displayed for all the server to see. The plugin for this action has been modified by a talented developer to do just that, since the older version did not allow it. Another reason for why this server would become a success is because I am determined to devote most of my time working on this server and making the changes based on what the actual community desires. Although, I will try my best to explain why the server is setup the way it is before making the changes asked about from the majority of the supporters. I apologize if my previous setup was not perfect. I was working hard to make it that way but could not afford to pay for the server any longer. I was very low in funds for a long period of time.

Please, just take the time to read it all. The fact is, the more you practice reading, the faster you get at doing it. If you find it difficult to read books, just make an attempt at reading these posts I make. I might use a lot of words but I do so in order to get the proper point across. Less words means more versions of interpretations. I rather have one idea understood with each of my points that I attempt to make. You've got to start somewhere if you want to be an expert at reading text. This is a decent way to build that skill inside you. Good luck, don't give up

That's one heck of a resource to expect people like us to read. Forums are meant for individual creation, that benefits us all. I appreciate the time people take to create unique posts which is why I favor unique replies and support, explaining what a server needs in order to not fail so easily. I know, my posts get better over time, but it's only because I flow when I write. I figure out what needs to be said by simply typing away. Eventually, my ideas become crystal clear. As far as the George Orwell post goes, I will attempt to read it after this particular reply is made. But I'm just not sure if that article has anything to do with my situation. You seem to think that I suffer from some sort of illness. The truth is, I've been surrounded by two different languages my entire life. So if my english is not as great as yours is, understand that I'm still working on it. Anyways, I would like to read more unique replies, rather than links to other works in history. I believe the proper reply can make all of the difference in the world and that's what I was hoping for when I composed my posts here. I never made such an attempt before. I was hoping for the best. I will continue to stay awake but I do have to take naps from time to time as I feel out of shape at certain times in the day. I just got out of bed so I'm expecting to stay awake for quite some time now. I will continue to reply as long as others do. Can I be told the truth about what's going on? Or is that out of the question at this point in time?

all the half-assed enthusiasm and bad ideas in the world won't make your plan a success.

the player base simply doesn't support the concept, that being a good social/teamwork with a stronger focus on teamwork than social. The numbers aren't there, and they aren't <b><i>GOING</i></b> to be there. It would take a serious serious event in PR (such as a patch -- not happening, or big NS2 news -- not coming for a while lol) even then the population just won't last.

Why is that you ask?<ol type='1'><li>Well you've managed to alienate 5 members of the subgroup you're trying to appeal to.</li><li>You have absolutely zero strategy when it comes to promoting/populating/running the server.</li><li>You don't even OWN a server, dispite being willing to throw money at people for HL CDKeys.</li><li>Your managerial/PR/inter-personal skills w/r/t your 'fantasy' doesn't really match up. <-- half-repeated for emphasis!</li></ol>
that didn't take long enough so I'm gonna wall it up a bit!

<b><u>On the subject of permanent bans.</u></b>

Loosely speaking, in punishment terms the permanent ban is the equivolent to exile or a death sentence.
Now IRL we would apply this to few to nil crimes, I guess it comes down to if the admins believe people can change(*).

*- I am aware some admins <i>DO NOT</i> have the mental capacity to think on this level.

Now the majority of the people who play this game are in the 15-20 age group, and holy crap there's a lotta change going on there. So yes, personally I think for this reason amoung others the people who play this game evolve and change, maybe for the better maybe for the worse.

The second thing you have to take into consideration with permanent bans is the more practical <b>"Would it be a detriment to this server if this player returned in X time?"</b>, this I find to be a more approachable method of reasoning when it comes to approximating admin response. The big difference here is some people do not factor in player change, which seems to be somewhat accellerated in an online environment.

So naturally if you don't take this into account you're gonna end up with a very hefty ban list, which will just keep growing. This could be practical if your server is densely populated anyway, but considering the outlying comparison a lot of people (myself included) would consider this inhumane.

But OFC it's a privately owned server so that could be dismissed entirely, which brings us to approach 3 which is an amalgam of both the above. <b>"What could I/we gain by NOT perm banning people from our servers?" (ie like a 2month ban or something large) </b>
Well I can cite several players who have calmed down and become very strong assets to servers over the years (but I won't name names cause that's discrimination lol), and ofc sometimes people just have bad days and they act like a right sod. So essentially you CAN gain very strong assets to your server by just leaning off slightly on your bans, and really the difference in malice between banning someone for 2-3 months and permanently is almost nil. People just don't care for that long lol(*)
    *- In most cases.

Very nice post. I salut your intelligence. You threw in various words I never even knew existed. +1 cool point. But your problem is that you believe this game should die. You seem to think that there's no point in even trying to keep it alive. Incase you didn't notice, there are still a GREAT deal of people currently playing this game. Sure, not as many as before but the reason for that is because the fact of the matter is, most people simply cannot handle such a complicated computer game such as Natural Selection. They get pwned in a matter of minutes and decide from that point on that they will try something else. Which also happens to be something else that is a bit easier in most cases.

Wow, a line break, looks like I'm showing you it can be done in my case, which it always was able to be, but I chose not to because the whole group of text I post ties together neatly unlike your post which lacks proper flow. You list 4 ideas and then go on and on about how permabanning is bad. Ok, yes, permabanning is the wrong idea to take into consideration, but, some people LIVE TO KILL OTHERS. It's a fact. That's why they have the word "murderer" or "serial killer" in dictionaries across the globe. Because these types of people are much more difficult to change. They've been broken so they take out their frustrations on the innocent or simply on the weak minded. It's immaturity to be honest.

Now onto the 4 ideas you listed above in your post...

    1. I did not choose to alienate anyone. I am defending myself and making these people realize who I am. And for the most part, I really do not care if they want to help me or not. I wanted to form a relationship with the person providing the server, not use them like objects. I was looking for someone who shared similar ideas with me and wanted to see something great happen with Natural Selection, before NS2 arrives.

    2. No strategy for running a server, you say? That's laughable because compared to servers that have been around for over a full year, my server became popular within a single month. We had tons of support. Just not enough when you compare it to the other servers such as 187 or G4B2S. Those servers managed to become the top US servers, for reasons unknown to me. If I knew why they became popular, I wouldn't have mentioned the fact that I would need words of advice from my fellow gamers who would become a part of this server I had in mind.

    3. You say that I am willing to throw away money on CD keys. Do you have any idea how cheap it is to buy Half Life these days? I can get one for $5, easily. I know WHERE to get them for that price. But a server, on the other hand, costs hundreds of dollars. Atleast the decent ones do

    4. I don't even understand this one. If you want people to know what in the hell you are talking about, you should type MORE descriptively. You use capital letters together to represent a larger word but you don't explain first what they stand for. This one was just unclear.

So in conclusion, I am willing to find people who play video games and get them into the NS atmosphere. I will provide Half Life accounts for them to play for free. Most of the people that are into video games are teenagers. So most of these teens are still in school, and don't have jobs to afford games like Half Life, even as cheap as it may be. But they do have low end computers in their house somewhere, which they can use to play this game that I've fallen in love with. I find it hard to understand what you would be doing in this community when you don't even encourage the growth of NS. It's as if you rather have a certain TYPE of people play this game. I believe everyone should experience the joys of this masterpiece.

If I find someone or not, it won't bother me. I'm merely giving NS one more chance to see if something greater can happen in this whole learning experience. If it doesn't happen, I will just move on to something else. I'm here to give this game another try and this would not only help the average gamer to find an advanced game such as NS, but it'll also help the NS developers since more players would equal huge profits once NS2 is released. But anyways, I appreciate people taking the time to read all of this and I hope everyone can see that I make a lot of sense here
