<div class="IPBDescription">rts-errific!</div>the 0.1 version of the mod halflife 2 wars has been released. its really simple but pretty neat little rts. it comes with 2 missions, and only single player at the moment, but the map tools are provided with it and if you make a decent map then there seems to be a good chance of it being included. it has objectives and at the moment only a few units you can make and control on either side, but its already kinda fun and looks promising.

    While not perfect, the tutorial mission was solid and fairly fun. The second level with the antlions I gave up on as I was unable to capture some of the points. Not sure, but a good start for sure.

    Seems pretty good though the citizens are so much weaker than me when I play HL2. They kept dying on me. I also had trouble putting turrets out since half the time they wouldn't even drop and the other half they would like to fall over.

    This could very well be, the greatest mod for half life 2 yet.... That is if they make an editor for it so you can make your own maps XD

    Online capability might be fun, if they balance it. Rebels vs. Combine..... that would be fun ;D

    Why hasn't valve thought of this?

    They already made an editor. In fact, that thing's been available for years now.

    And what do you mean "why hasn't Valve thought of this?" I'm 100% sure someone at Valve has considered at least what an HL2 RTS game would look like. They just haven't devoted years of work and millions of dollars to making it, is all.

    This mod looks like alot of fun!

    I downloaded and tried to install it.. but it isnt showing up on my steam's game listing for some reason <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad-fix.gif" />

    Even uninstalled, closed steam, reinstalled, and opened steam back up <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad-fix.gif" />

    Whenever I try to start a game of it, it gets to about 90% loading bar then crashes with some engine error or whatever. It's been different each time so far <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad-fix.gif" />

    make sure you have episode 1 installed. i hear if you dont have it installed then it wont work.

    ive also heard that if you dont own episode one but you preload it, then the game will load up fine but it will be missing models in game. but it will still be playable.

    Got all the Half Life games since HL1 installed ('cept that PS Decay title). I think my computer just sucks tbh.

    It might just be the mod. Sometimes things like that crash on their first release even on a good computer. I can't remember which mod it was, but my computer, which never crashes on anything, crashes loading it. They just have bugs. It's hard to catch everything when you have limited time and resources.

    Hammer isn't so simplistic. It allows the user to create a vast variety of environments and uses an old basic BSP generation for levels which is why it isn't like for example the Crysis sandbox nor the crappy RTS editors which are so unvaried.

    Try using interlopers, snarkpit and other sites for tutorials.

    EDIT: This also allows for levels and environments to be more customisable as you can make your own models and textures and so forth. However it is time consuming for the benefit.

    Those are RTS games that use RTS editors to make an RTS game. With HL2Wars you have a FPS engine and an FPS Editor that are used to make an RTS game. Things are more complicated.

    They coded and scripted it to be a RTS style game so the only thing thats FPS is the engine...

    Well, whatever. I'll either learn how to use it or jsut give up and go with updates and player made maps...

    The only thing FPS is indeed the engine and, but that doesn't change the fact that the engine uses BSP trees for level design. One could even create a 2d sidescroller with the source engine, but that doesn't change how you build the levels...

    I guess, IF they create prefab houses and some models to put in a map. You could simply create large box consisting of 6 brushes where the top part is covered in SKY texture and the bottom brush is a displacement map to create canyons and mountains...

    But then again I am not sure (well actually I think it is highly unlikely) that HLVIS will be calcuated correctly with simply a displacement map.

    I was actually entertaining the idea of making a side-scroller multiplayer mod for half-life 2 (Like soldat... but with good graphics). Then I realized I don't know how to code so I gave up.

    i believe i saw someone some open source code that you can add in to make a sidescroller hl2 mod. dont remember where though, it couldve been on interlopers.
