Keyboards Have More Bacteria Than a Toilet Seat!

<div class="IPBDescription">news from the weird...</div>Just heard on the morning news that the average computer keyboard contains <b>400</b> times more bacteria on it than a toilet seat. They showed a keyboard that is dishwasher safe too.

Think about <b>THAT</b> the next time you're typing and you bite your nails! <img src="http://www.nsmod.org/forums/style_emoticons/default/fear.gif" border="0" class="linked-image" />

Toilet seats have a lot less bacteria on them than you probably think.

It makes sense, and forgive me for being "lol old" but this honestly is fairly old news.

Think about it. You use your hands to interact with pretty much everything you find. Then you rub them over the keyboard, and you drop food on it etc...

The only thing your ass cheeks come into contact with is your pants and the toilet seat, and the only thing your basic toilet seat comes into contact with is your ass cheeks. And most people are fairly anal (LOL PUN!) about keeping their toilets clean.
    .
I'd make a sex joke here about ass cheeks also potentially coming into contact with someone else's thighs/crotch but I'm sure someone will edit me. So I won't.

Yep, I clean mine reguarly it sucks so much down time, mineral turps does the job, rip every inch of the keyboard open clean it put it back togther. I have been looking at a dishwasher safe one, a silicone roll up, but I love my erganomic keyboard way to much.

Its a good old soild as a lead brick microsoft erganomic wouldnt replace it for the world, am going to be so cut when it dies.

Got sick a few months back and in that pre sick clumzy baloon head stage I spilt drink in it 3 times like 750ml cups full. I thought it was a goner for sure, after the last spillage it took 3 clean outs before it came good.

I usualy know when it needs a clean, as ill rub my eyes and it will sting like FRUCK I mean immence pain it will sting,
sometimes I obiously have to fight through the pain and clean it as soon as possable. It acctuly needs a clean right now, tho I could of just had some other crap on my fingers the other night "like deritos flavoring".

I cant help wounder tho, If the last 14 years of STD's thats have spawned or are new strains are a result of dirty key boards keyboards.
Think about it how many pimple faced idiots sit at their comps whacking off in some form or another.

Perhaps its a goverment conspiracy, to breed a new germ warefare weapon. Internet+porn+dirty nerds equals end of some country.

We also don't clean our keyboards with anything more then a bit of rubbing alcohol (if that), where as most people clean their toilets with antibacterial stuff.

    The other side is:
    So what?
Most bacteria will not make you sick.

Also biting your nails is bad for your teeth, Depot. You shouldn't do it <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mad-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="mad-fix.gif" />

bacteria are generally good for you. very few of cause significant problems. most pathogens are very very mild, and exposure to them is essential for training an immune system. Sterilising every communal surface will possibly produce a net reduction in personal health.

I do not, under any circumstances, use an air hand dryer though. I'll always use some jacks paper to dry my hands after washing them.

It turns out that people who grow up in an overly cleanly household are more likely to develop allergies later on.

Like the old saying goes, what doesn't kill you makes you stronger. Not that hygiene and cleanliness is bad - on the contrary, it has made us healthier - but a little bacteria here and there keeps the immune system from getting lazy, which is vital once you end up with an actual, harmful infection.

I would argue that public toilet seats probably have more bacteria than a keyboard. especially the ones that have brown smears around the entire circumference, speckled with yellow pools and possibly other unknown colors and textures.

I bite my nails real bad and my teeth are above average... however, my fingers look like they were mangled in a machine.

On the other hand, in high school, I got into the habit of biting pen caps. I whittled some pen caps down to nubs with my teeth... and one tooth is permanently really blunt because of it <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad-fix.gif" />

I keep the surface of my keyboard very, very clean. Mouse as well.

But the inside... remains woefully ignored D: I'm gonna get the aids.

edit: it's a laptop and I don't feel like shaking the whole thing. or busting they keys out when, knowing me, I'll probably snap the brackets inside. I don't eat over it though, so it doesn't have your usual dorito crumb, drink spillage, and whatever other misc. nastiness is typical of keyboard innards.

I don't eat/drink by my keyboard, and I keep a dust cover (read: 3 pieces of notebook paper) over it and my mouse when they aren't in use. Every few days or so I wipe the crud off my mouse with my T-Shirt. And I was my hands a good bit. So things are pretty clean over on my end.

Your mouth probably has more bacteria than your keyboard.

    Your large intestine <i>definitely</i> does.

Bacteria and ###### build up inside the unit because it is a warm, dusty environment and are then blown all over the hands you just washed. This is why most half-decent restaurants and food preparation areas do not include a hand dryer.

Also tell me more about fourskins.

People actually dry their hands with them? I used them to warm my hands, it was relaxing and therapeutic really.

More food for thought: if you fail to close the toilet seat lid when you flush the toilet the mist can spray 15 to 20 feet. You don't see it and probably won't even feel it, but tests have proven this.

Think about <u><b>THAT</b></u> the next time you brush your teeth. Yeah, most toothbrushes would fall within that range. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />
