unlockable /rewards system

I don't know if this has ever been suggested, and i stole it a bit from xbox achievements system but i think a reward system makes people play as lifeforms or races they normally won't play.

Alot of players are certain lifeform ######s, i think in NS1 fade######s are the most common. SO my suggestion is a reward system, players can unlock all kinds of stuff that don't alter gameplay or only in a minimal way. When a player has unlocked all rewards in a certain lifeform he will probably play as another lifeform more often to get other unlockable rewards. Basically, this idea counters lifeformwhoring and encourages people to play more with lifeforms they normally won't use. ON the other hand, it can give insight in the dev process and people slowly learn more about the game as they gain skills.

a few idea's for rewards:

1.artwork ( I know you have alot of nice post-production artwork and i want to SEE it, all of it, maybe every 200 kills unlocks a new piece of art)
2. armorstickers/armorexpansion ( a way to personalise your rine/alien, people who have been playing the game for years would be easily recognized to new players as dangerous and teammates can easily see who's around helping them, the bigger the armorexpansion or sticker, the better they are)
3. a rank in the scoringboard , next to score, weapons and name on the scorebaords also the rank of the player, every X00 kills or won matches people would gain in rank until they are general or (*something alien*). people who join the server would have an idea what kind of players they are facing, so they have no reason to go frustrated cause they can't shoot sh*t.
4. easter eggs , very (and i really mean VERY) hard to find unlockables. but with sweet rewards, like a small singleplayer map.
5.commentary : like the commentary in HL2 etc. but unlockable, commentary that is focussed on strategy and best ways to win a map. I know NS maps are fine-tuned to provide the best balance between races, so sometimes i wish i could hear from the mapmaker himself how he intended the map.

none of these things alter gameplay drastically and if you set up the awardssystem in a way that new players will be flooded with rewards, while the sweet rewards need elite skills, they will come back to NS more often, just because they are interesed what the next reward will be.

until they unlocked all the newbie rewards, and find themself completely addicted to NS.

That would take a lot of 'extra' effort on the 2 or 3 art devs to make artwork patches onto things.

you recon mastertpg, ###### anyone can open up a *.bmp file in paint and do a bit of pixel art, wouldnt take much to code in when said thing unlocks use *2.bmp from now on.

and ###### we do it for a living cos its fun, in photoshop with presure sensative stylists, with near real time reloading to cheak the out come of each stroke.

    ###### I would so unlock a gorge skin that made me look of blend in with OC's as apose to a bright orange blob.

as for the armor unlocks yeah that could consume a bit more time. but it might just be worth it.

besides they are already adding in a skill lvl, if your a newb you wont be playing on a server with skilled elite players.
so say i am a eltie skilled player playing o na elite skileld server, now all my sulks would look weird as they all have mo-hawks.

I dont know if I am really set in the ways of haveing a achivement unlock, reap reward system.

I would love to see, a system were every sulk is slightly diffrent no two sulks are the same and this changes every time they spawn in, same with marines, i would then like to see kharaa further change depending on the upgrades they take.
Second Life does this well with the character appearance, modifications.
    immagine.

40 sliders each slider conected to joints, move the slider move the joints alter the model, except you dont alter the slider, directly.
the out come of things you do alters the out come, when you spawn in your sliders random ise some were in the middle of each slider,
but based on your chosen upgrades other sliders adjust by said amount, but based on the randomising of your original spawn in even kharaa that both have the same upgrades still look completely diffrent. then based on otherthings you do your kharaa futher changes.
you may start off small, you gain 10 kills with out dieing you may find your sulk to be the size of a lion now not a rotti or large dog.
you dont get kills for a bit perhaps you get smaller more skinnyer. so when every one bounding down a coridor the bigger better players will be takeing the bullets and not hte skiny little players,

perhaps you sucesfully get stuff all kills but ambushed with otu takeing damage, a slider might further dynamicly adapt.
evolving would most likley adjust your slider again except maybe a few might be locked until dynamic play adjusts them, e.g you might kill 15 rines as a sulk, your now a huge target, so you gorge or lerk to try and become smaller again, but it knows and remebers your still full, so now your not a faclon like lerk now your like a teradactal in size.

onos would be a bit harder obiously his MAX MAX size if by chance all the sliders that effected his size happened to all roll 100, that would be the size the character hulls cater for. but a malnurished onos with say celerity, might be long like a horse and stream lined, as per the adjustments takeing celerity did to his inital dice roll. a second onos with celerity might of rolled a fater pudgy onos so his celerity turned him in bull like shape.

the same would go for marines, but with dynamic skin color, tattoos / amounts of tattoos, tattoo color, assesories, how many bullets in your boldaler.

that would make everyone always look different and unique, people would be liking the perks certain upgrades yeld.

But as for a unlockable achivment set up, i honoustly dont know how much it would add to the game, so far from what i have seen it doesnt add much to replay value, a stats reward system like the amx rewards is fun, but it doesnt brand and scare you, if people play and unlock everything they feel they have completed the game, then what.

i got this i got that, even the end of round amx spawns this kind of competative argueing and usualy results in people hell bent on gearing for awards ignoreing team work, or negatively puting every one down cos they reached some random goal the devs consitered to be a bench mark that you should be awarded for.

consitereing the devs have mentioned they will be adding a server rank system, so noobs cant play with elites, or at least so elties cant play with noobs and noobs have the choice not to play with elites. i wouldnt want to play on a server were every sulk is identical and everyones unlocked a mow hawk.

i know you used those things as exsamples, and i am freely interchangeing newb and noob here, even tho there is a diffrance and i have mostly ment newb. wounders if we can stick all the pig headed ass hole noobs on the one server? so they dont scare away all the newbs.

but at this time in my opinion i can vote for a ingame achivment system, and i may of thought hey cool 3weeks ago but have given it plenty of thought.

as long as they don't affect gameplay at all, then ok
