`tis kind of a netlag/fps issue I think. Mostly netlag as in the server is still registering you in the Xhair of said rine. While on your screen you are already arround the corner. bf1942 engine can do this even worse <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" />

My answer for this is unchanged, I tend to keep my pistol out except when the combat gets close or I know I need to be prepared for close quarters combat. (I prefer a shotgun but of course those cost rez)

    So I say <i>both</i> and <i>interchangeably</i>.

LMG is your best bet in most cases.

However, the pistol is very good for whipping those noob lerkers.

I use lmg out by default, but in corridors, places where skulks hide, or if I'm walking/crouching, its pistol. Usual encounter (if skulk starts far off), pistol, lmg, pistol (if needed), knife.

    Close up: lmg, pistol, knife.

Or if they suck: pistol + shank.

lmg most times, especially in highly ambush areas on maps. it is easy to kill when suprised or dazed by an ambush with the lmg for me anyway

pistols in certain areas usually with alot of vents, i know one of the places i always use my pistol is in double for tanith. also large rooms early in the game, it dont hurt becuase skulks cant reach you so quick and no lifeforms would be up.

What's better against hurt fades, pistol or lmg? (knife and tampons are weak compared to both)

Neither are preferable... but if you can empty the sucker, you've got 200 damage very quickly from the pistol... (Though according to the community manual, they've got the exact same damage/sec...)

Pistol in my opinion has to be one of the most exciting weapons in the game. I love the sound too.

Ah, so therefore the pistol is better due to lmg spread. (Fades don't like to hang around at close range for long)

always run with your knife out. or a primed hand grenade if your team has those.

Stop me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure you run the same speed no matter what weapon you have out...this isnt CS, run speed is determined by pure weight, not encumberance. nade isnt a bad idea, but if you can aim at all lmg/pistol is probably better.

correct. your speed cap is indeed directly related to how much weight you are carrying around. (yes, even ammo slows you down)

Makes a fairly small difference. Turn on the speedometer and see for yourself though.

You run quicker with the knife or the pistol than with the lmg. It's even "worse" than in CS since the pistol is slower than the knife while in CS it doesnt matter whether you run with the pistol or the knife.

I know you run faster by throwing down your weapons, and just holding the knife, but I believe that as long as you are <i>carrying</i> a weapon in NS, it slows you down the same amount whether or not its the weapon you are actually holding in front of you.

IE, if you switch to your knife to run down a hall, then switch back to your LMG, the guy who had his LMG out the whole time will still be right beside you, but the guy who dropped his LMG and is ONLY carrying a knife will get ahead of you.

    Am I misinformed on this?

    Yes, you are misinformed.

Running in a straight line with the lmg (at starting ammo) you go at you go at 203 speed, the pistol is 206 and the knife is 208.

    Srafe jump with your lmg out <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" />.

I start with my LMG. I take it down to around 15 rounds left Switch to my pistol fire off 7 rounds. Then back thte LMG. If its not dead then I have 3 more shots to take it out.

    The reasoning...

I kill most shulks with my LMG within the 30 rounds. But if there is a fade I use my LMG and then pistol. I keep some ammo in my LMG so I can switch back if I see a shulk coming. Shulk and a fade both give my team the same RES so might as well kill the little one first. If I dont kill the shulk with the 20 rounds in my LMG I have the res of my Pistol.

I have had a times when I had a few team members along with me and there was a fade. By shotting the fade with my LMG and then the pistol we got to the point where it would run off. I shulk jumped and and I killed it with the 20 rounds in my LMG and maybe a pistol shot or 2. When the shulk died the fade started to run. I jumped off the end to chase it and and killed the fade with 3 shots of my pistol as it jumped down the corador.

It my 3 or so rounds in my pistol always saves me. Its wierd but it works and most of the time I dont think about switching I just know about how long I have till Im going to run out then I switch to my pistol so Im alwasy firing. I dont want to lose a fight because I was firing a empy weapon for 3 shots.

he was referring to what weapon you had out, not how much ammo. I just had the speedo on today but forgot to look at the difference between selected weapon. Regardless, I dont think 5 u/s speed gain is enough difference to warrant the .x second delay in firing when a skulk comes bhopping at you at 400+ u/s (or better yet, leaping at 800+ u/s), a .2 s lastinv delay (not sure exactly how long it is, but I think its at least that) is at least 20 damage you could have already done. Its like not researching hand grenades just so you walk 2-3 u/s faster all the time.

and tomekki, im not sure what your video is supposed to be showing? just use cl_showspeed 1.

its meant to show that even small changes in hl speed units make a big difference

Seems to me that the video shows you bhopping with knife and not with the lmg.
  • TOmekkiTOmekki Join Date: 2003-11-25 Member: 23524Members
yes! well thats why i said that you should always run with the knife out! with an lmg or pistol out you arent able to make that jump, you stop flat just like with too much ammo.
