I guess I agree that as a whole the quality of art is subjective as far as we prove, it's just there are definitely thinks you can point out within the piece that you can objectively say "this has more colors, or many overlapping textures that work together..." so on and so forth. These sort of statements aren't human opinions, they are true absolute statements that I believe people "in the know" will acknowledge, even without having previous rapport. It just makes me wonder if we could separate all entertainment value and personal meaning, and I guess any other human variable, if there would be an objective truth to art. Of course, we're all humans and that won't happen, but it doesn't change what exists. At any rate you're definitely right these arguments never go anywhere.
As far as the other comment I have no expectations for anyone, merely stating a disagreement. I understand what you are saying, but I never said anything about expecting someone else to appreciate music the way I think it should, I just disagreed with their opinion and explained my standpoint. Also, although this is deviating, I don't think that your example is anything like the situation. Having advanced graphics creates additional opportunity to add creativity/art, but I see it pretty much as this; it's like a tv show where they show a lot of skin, but it doesn't really add to the content of the show.

The first thing I did when i got home that Wednesday was download In Rainbows and listen to it while playing Portal, before realizing that the dialog in Portal was top notch, so I had to put Portal off for 42 minutes.

What I'm confused about here, is why you put PORTAL off for 42 minutes, rather then play portal through for the 2 hours and then enjoy a nice reflective 42 minutes listening to radio head and enjoying the music/thinking about why the cake is a lie.
