<div class="IPBDescription">Colorado Rockies... does not compute...</div>So, I live in Colorado. have my whole life...

I've been to a few baseball games in the past. The last one I remember going to the Rockies lost 24-12.

And now... They just swept the National League championship and are going to the World Series. They have won the last 21 games they have played...

My mind has been blown. I mean, I'm very used to the Rockies sucking, and the World Series... Just making it there... I can't comprehend it.

The Milwaukee Brewers did pretty good too; it was their first season above .500 in 15 years, which is kind of like getting into the playoffs for them. They had the prestigious honor of finishing last place 3 years in a row (2002-2004), with the amazing average of .346 in 2002. Maybe we're past that slump that happened in the mid-80's?

So...I guess they've been losing as long as the Rockies have been a team, <i>coincidence</i>?

Anyway, yay, non-Yankee, non-Atlanta teams in the playoffs!
(although I don't really feel strongly about it either way)

Apparently the Pirates are playing like Milwaukee, matching the 15-non-winning seasons (and, not having actually attained .500 in one of those seasons like the Brewers, having 15-losing seasons streak).

Why is the US always world champion, when it comes to sports like baseball and football? Because no other nation plays those. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" />

Why not try a real sport... your so called "soccer" or football, as the rest of the world calls it.

    Or even better, rugby! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />

They call it the 'world series' but the rest of the world isn't invited for some reason. Japan likes baseball - I don't know how they stack up vs. the US though.

A lot of South American countires enjoy it too, and apparently its growing in popularity in China (...while pretty much losing it in the US). Aside from the basic play on semantics every other country's citizens decide they have to play, get some bearings over <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_series#International_impact.2C_and_explanation_of_the_term_.22World.22_Seres" target="_blank">here</a>, and stop complaining that your country isn't playing in a competition older than the FIFA World Cup (technically it started in 1857, the MLB only recognizes 1903 onwards). Happily enough for all of you, there's now the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_Baseball_Classic" target="_blank">World Baseball Classic</a> for you to turn your rage on (or be disappointed that you can't...whatever). Perhaps you'd be angry that the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baseball_World_Cup" target="_blank">Baseball World Cup</a> has existed since 1938...but it doesn't allow professional players (only up to the upper echelons of minor league play).

Even if you still want to get tied up in the semantics of the name, there are plenty of non-American players on the individual teams, and one of the teams is still from Canada (...Montreal had had one before 2004 as well).

I also wasn't aware that 'Super Bowl' implied any sort of effect on the World (although you can happily have the Magdeburg Virgin Guards or the Schwäbisch Hall Unicorns play against some American team, that'd be cool too - why do they insist on making the mascots in English? I've since concluded that the major reasons American Football isn't very popular in Europes is 1: the team names, and 2: the craptastic conditions the teams play, and 3: poor marketing and showmanship.).

Why does it always have to come back to soccer? You're going to be disappointed here, but most older sports watchers just don't like the pace of football (although I personally think the lack of high scoring numbers might be a bigger part; neither of those concern my enjoyment of the game). Maybe Americans are just getting more violent, and that's also why Baseball is dwindling in popularity as well? Or why not harp on the Japanese, who's xenophobic tendencies have landed football limited popularity but embraced baseball rather fully?

And thus, we should conclude: if you don't like some particular sport in some form, or if you're going to come into sports-based threads to proclaim 'X sport is better', you're probably better off just not coming into a thread. Football is fine, but I don't see why everyone has to take the time to berate a sport they don't like. You don't see me going into threads about Curling and Golf and harping on how lame those sports are (but the lack of golf or curling related threads is probably indicative of their universal lack of popularity).
