Needs some volunteers for a survey for uni.

There is no right or wrong so no GOOGLING! do it quickly.

The following item list is comprised of real words and made-up words. All items are four-letters long. Your job is to decide whether an item is a word or made up word.

In the first blank column, type “yes” if you think the item is a word or type “no” if you think the item is a made-up word.

In the second blank column, you must rate how confident you are in your word/non-word choice. For each item, type:

- “3” if you are very confident;
- “2” if you are somewhat confident; or
- “1” if you are guessing

    basically just put a 3 next to all of those.

    - I went back and actually checked to see which ones I got "wrong" - I mistook hyme for hymn, anum for annum, mirk for murk, and I didn't know that a kip was a unit of measure. I might have got others wrong but I'm too lazy to check

    e/ haha, I just realized I'm using firefox and it has the spell checker on. All the non-real words were underlined for me. I didn't notice it but... maybe I've been subliminally influenced. I suggest you make people turn those off <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />

    Just my 2 cents, but this is perhaps one of the worst ways to conduct a survey. There are so many confounding variables. As you can see, someone already messed up the reply. Also, they shouldn't publicly post their answers, since it could influence other people. And then there is the matter of the survey not being monitored at all, so you won't have any idea of who cheats or forgets to turn off the spell checker. There's no way you could draw any correlations from this let alone causations.

    Maybe that's the point. It's some kind of super psychological experiment based on researching how many people are mindless sheep who'll just follow Enforcer's answers without thinking. And Enforcer is in on it.

    WELL I AIN'T FALLING FOR IT!

    But yeah, having people PM the answers would probably be best.

    Sent PM. I don't know how you're evaluating this, but you do realise that there's a lot of vocab even a non-English NS player could get correct because of its prominence in the game, e.g. <span style='color:#000000;background:#000000'>cage, fade, gore, vent, warp, weld</span>, because they frequently appear in in-game chat or even in the game proper. Granted these are all quite obvious for native English speakers, but if you had a significant amount of non-native English speaker, non-NS players who failed to get these words and a bunch of non-native English speaker, NS players who scored highly on these words you would have a clear trend.

    Also, what source are you checking these against? I did a couple of checks out of interest and there are a few archaic words that you might instinctively get, but depending on which source you're checking these against you will get different results.
