Something a little odd?

I just noticed how much this mod sounds like starcraft.
Think about it the mobile alien buildings, the bio crap that spreads from them, the marines, how the aliens look.
The alein turrets caut my attintion look closly how they use a tentical to hit its target just like the zerg ones frem SC.

    I didn't know the aliens had mobile buildings in natural selection...

    I still don't like that the aliens have a builder  <!--emo&:angry:--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mad.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':angry:'><!--endemo-->

    and why should i listen to a glowing duck? <!--emo&:p--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':p'><!--endemo-->
    i think the builder is a fine idea, real aliens would not just be bloodthirsty poopoos, they would have variations. and a builder would be a sensible alien to bring along when u go a'conquerin.

    the Zergs didn't have mobile buildings. The Terrans did. So Ha!

    And, actually, Starcraft is more like Aliens And Predator combined. They've got the tough-### marines (Terrans), The Organic, Bio-weapon using only aliens being used by the humans as bioweapons (Zerg) and the race of warriors who use their advanced technology to hunt both species (Protoss)

    aka we've got AVP 1 and 2's (in order) Confederate Marines, Aliens, Predators.

    So maybe starcraft is a rip off of AVP? hmm?

    Nope. It's just that Sci-fi tends to mesh together like this..just like Fantasy and even real life tends to mesh together and copy itself.

    There's nothing odd about it, some of our members are huge Starcraft fans <!--emo&:)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'><!--endemo-->

    Anyway, I doubt NS turned out to be like StarCraft on purpose. It's just something that happens when good ideas are made. They get used and altered somewhat. No big deal.

    Peopls say NS is like a lot of things, like gloom, like AvP, like Starcraft.. No game these days is truly original, just a modified version of an old game, Take racing games for instance, why are they so popular and yet all the same thing? Each performs differently, has different styles while they still are all beat the other guy or the clock. I even heard one guy complain to me in IRC that NS was too much liek Half-Life with marines vs. aliens. A good game takes other stuff that has proven to work, modified and added in new twists to make a new game.

    I .. don't see why this sounds odd at all ...

    NS is a combination of a FPS and a RTS.  Therefore, it could sound like any fps/rts that centers around aliens/marines.

    Ok, here's the thing. Starcraft was really good. NS is really good. Ergo, they look the same.

    if u guys actually look through the nstr2 files, and the sounds, some are the exact same as in starcraft (mainly the alien noises)
  • MoleculorMoleculor Namer-of-Bob Join Date: 2002-01-24 Member: 9Members
    That's actually because they're using them as fillers. They'll change before release.
  • VoberVober Join Date: 2002-03-27 Member: 356Members
    And also prolly all fantasy games are the same cuz they all have orks that grunt the same....
  • pielemuispielemuis Join Date: 2002-01-25 Member: 72Members, NS1 Playtester
    I guess all people are getting mislead by the NS trailer. That trailer uses starcraft sounds, and there are eve nsome soundclips in the nstr2, but those sounds are just placeholders, none of those sounds will be used when the beta is released.
  • JedisarJedisar Join Date: 2002-03-03 Member: 264Awaiting Authorization
    I couldn't view the trailer. <!--emo&:(--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':('><!--endemo--> None of my players worked with it.

    I think you need divx, but anyway, not that you miss anything, it has CS weapon placeholders and it shows some basic PS manipulations, it's pretty old...
  • ElowindElowind Join Date: 2002-03-06 Member: 279Members
    ya i figured the would molec, put i was just pointing out sumthing, be even if this mod did use starcraft for a few ideas or things, it'll still be awsome

    Last time I played SC, and it was a while ago, every Terran building could fly. I should say float, as it wasn't a quick process. That was the only good point to playing as them, the fact that you could float your barracks to just outside the enemy outskirts, and start a resistance movement that anyone would be proud of.
  • the_stalkerthe_stalker Join Date: 2002-01-25 Member: 49Members
    its just the command center, barracks and science lab that can float, maybe the vehichle plant but the rest, i dont think so
  • ElowindElowind Join Date: 2002-03-06 Member: 279Members
    obviously u guys dont play enough its the: command center, barracks, engineering bay, starport, and factory

    Bah! After I beat the single player, I never touched it. I tried multiplayer for one week, then I was introduced into the "Zerg rush"... ruined me on it. <!--emo&:(--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':('><!--endemo-->

    A couple things:

    - NS doesn't have mobile buildings of any sort.

    - NS has been compared to Aliens, Aliens vs. Predator, CS, HL, Space Hulk, Advanced Space Crusade, Gloom, Battlezone, Tribes, X-Com and Starcraft.  In reality, it takes influences from ALL those games (well, I've never played X-com, but I've been told it has a lot in common with it).

    - You cannot innovate without knowledge of previous work.  This is why games incorporate features from other games.  You build upon other games and add your own new stuff.

    - If you make something too new, no one will play it.  If you make something too derivative, no one will play it.  The trick is adding just enough totally new stuff so the game experience feels fresh, but players can jump into it quickly.
