Did 1.03 Already Come Out?...

Ok, I've been busy with pre-finals projects, etc, and just now read some forum posts and I have been seeing people talking about changes in 1.03 as if it were already out. Specifically, the post titled "1.03 is evil I tells ya!" or something like that comes to mind.

I haven't seen anything on the NS site, and the RR seems to be down for the moment. Anyway, was this person playing some sort of beta-testing server, as unlikely as that sounds, or has there been an announcement about what will be in 1.03? (But then why is he talking about playing it?)

Anyway, there is probably a very simple answer to this, but I haven't discovered it yet. Would someone enlighten me please?

Thanks,

Twilight

    Beta-beta testing I believe
Like with 1.02, I was playing on a 1.02 server a few days before it actually came out
Finding giant bugs when 15000 people are playing is badddd

1.03 is in beta (meaning that a few servers are running it), and the big "issue" is with the model consitancy check that they're putting into it. I say "issue" in quotes, because it's not really up for debate
Not sure on the release date for it, but I'd guess sometime this week.

Its in beta. There are a few select servers that are running beta tests for the dev team, and the posts you see cropping up about 1.03 are from people that played on those servers.

So I presume that the Servers have the 1.03 in the title so that you know you're playing that? Else how would you know, unless there are large changes?

Yeah, just look for 1.03 in the server's name. I know Fists of Ra is one of the ones testing it, and a good server at that. Too bad it's always full -_-

public testing is great but why are the changelogs always hidden, is that some kind of inside joke, because i would rather playtest knowing all of the changes/fixes then guessing to see if it's balanced

It is sort of like a lab experiment, you don't tell the people what you are giving them medication for. That will taint the results.

yeah if people know how they're supposed to be feeling after taking drug A then they will more often that not feel it regardless of real factors. that's why when they do clinical trials you have a placebo group and a real test group - none of the patients knowing whether they are in the placebo or real group. that way any false positives from the placebo group can be discounted and results are not tainted.

with NS, people should just play v1.03b and report back how things are without going into it with any pre-dispositions and then the developers can match that to what they hoped for.

Regardless, I feel rather bitchslapped after playing under the new 1.03 patch.

This new "Kill all the alien players if they don't have a hive" sucks.

Sure, we lost all our hives, but we hadn't lost, I'd just managed to get to a former hive location that the marines hadn't fortified to well, and our skulks hand managed to take down the turrets. I was about to start a new hive when 'oops' gameover

**obscenity** me off a great deal.

I noticed that today as well. Playing a game and I hear a strange beeping noise, then the game ends. Guess I really was playing on a 1.3 server and it wasn't a typo like someone mentioned. I do agree that the aliens should be given *some* time to try and come back. Granted it is not very likely but still.

I have, 3 times, in one round. Just ask Khaim

And came back strong enough to win.

I tried to play the 1.03 beta the other day, but was kicked for a inconsistant shell.mdl.... which I HAVEN'T changed, mind you. Unless it's taking into effect that I use the HD pack for base Half-Life, which probably has a different shell.mdl then the default HL.
