<div class="IPBDescription">With Ad Support.</div>Ubisoft has just released a few games for free and one of them is Farcry. Not bad eh? They do have Ad Support though. When i have downloaded it i will check how intrusive these ads are and if they hinder gameplay at all.
Free Games...

The servers are slowtastic though, torrent would be nice. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad-fix.gif" />
But for some reason clicking the download button only brings me back to the main page. What's up with that?
But yeah, the download link for GR throws you back to the index.
Okay, have fun with that...?
Has anyone gotten Ghost Recon to work? I installed the Fileplant Download Manager (don't groan, it's actually a very good program) to see if that would do anything but it doesn't.
Both PoP and FC have ads on the main menu, and options screens.
When loading a game in FC, it starts you off with an ad before it loads(it DOES NOT LOAD DURING THIS. After the ad is over, it does).
When you reach a new level in PoP it shows an ad.
Its not that bad, except in FC when you reach a place where you die a lot. Then you're watching an ad every time you reload your game...aka, ######ing often.
Yeah, the C&C links aren't working either.
What's Ghost Recon then if I've got confused between Ghost Recon and GRAW?
Guess I'll just wait until the games come out on some REAL sites and not that PoS one.
It's also a chance to test out their ad system itself. Will it be easily hacked? Are new ads being uploaded to the network efficiently? etc.
I'm curious, what sort of ads are they showing you? Ads for the US Army? Are they country-specific? Are they mostly games related? Are they for Ubisoft games?
@Skyrage, if you are having troubles with the download stopping, you should try to get the fileplanet download utility - lets you resume downloads, and I think it works akin to torrents, but I'm not sure. Or yeah, just wait until it comes up elsewhere :X
<a href="http://www.http-tunnel.com/html/" target="_blank">HTTP Tunnel</a> will let you live in the US. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" />

Ghost Recon is the original game. GRAW is the new one.

Perhaps. But I've never been against ingame ads, as long as they are done right:
During loading screens('cause I don't pay attention here)
On ingame Billboards/Newspapers etc.
And I'm unsure if this is a trial run for that anyhow- I think Ubisoft knows better than to pull ###### like that first. They'd let someone else take the heat.
And currently, the ads are for McDonald's Dollar Menu.
Eh...does that go for all games? And what's with the U.S only BS anyway?
Or, this may sound crazy but go with it, it could tell by your IP address! I mean, I know it's a crazy idea but it's possible.
I figured as much, although thank you for the link Hellbilly <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />
I suspect it has something to do with the ads; I doubt recruitment ads for the U.S army are going to be awfully effective at recruitment among European gamers for instance. That does not make it any less retarded.
... or it could be because Europe hasn't invented the internet yet.
on the topic of this thread, I didn't even notice any ads yet... no ads in the tutorial, none so far in the first mission, none on the main menu, and none that I could see during loading, though it loaded so fast maybe I just didn't notice.
I like the concept of Ghost Recon, and I get some satisfying assaults and kills, but it feels like you really can't go through the game without 'cheating' (savescumming - saving and reloading every 2 seconds when one of your dudes dies, which is often). and then when you reload, you know where the bad guys are, so it feels like cheating in that regard too...
anyway, what are some of the best Tom Clancy games? preferably ones that are slightly more forgiving than Ghost Recon =p and are they all squad-based shooters?
heh, look, their free game might actually get me to buy their retail games - their advertising works <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />
