<div class="IPBDescription">For those who like free MMO's</div>I'm sure some of you remember the Archlord open beta little less then a year ago. Alot of people didnt continue playing because of monthly fees or only played the first free 30 days that came with the retail game. But Codemasters soon saw they made a mistake by making a asian cash shop model game a retail subscription game did not work and removed the monthly fees and have been slowly phasing out the retail packages preparing for a free download game.
So now Codemasters have finally decided the game is 100% free to download and play and will be funded by purchases of in game credits which buys you all sorts of game enhancing items.
I still play the game and i'm active in one of the strongest guilds on the Brumhart server with a level 71 character and if any of you old timers here decide to check it out and come play, i'll hook you up with some tips and tricks and if you are nice, some gear <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink-fix.gif" />

This is a fun PVP game and you dont have to grind up to level 99 to enjoy some ganking or PVP or some drama, it's all there from level 15 and onwards. There are alot of active guilds and we do castle sieges every week and in less then 2 weeks we will be competing for the first Archlord status on the server.
So if any of you NS old timers decide to join, send me a PM and make sure you join Brumhart server.

Now where do you buy a Soul again?
You can do what you want at your own pace. I can level a character up to level 25 in a day if i want, but i can also just relax enjoy it and level him up to 10 or 15.
Even if you are in a guild, you dont have to do any instances in a group or anything. The only thing that requires you to do anything at pre-determined time is castle seieges and the Archlord battle, and you have to be at least level 50 or higher to take part in that anyway.
I'd say this game is worth it even if you just level a character up to 15 (takes a couple of hours) so you can start PvP'ing other people.

how important are the items in that store?

I'm sorry i was going to mention that in the original post but forgot.
Basically, if you have never used them, you dont need them. Once you use them, you get hooked on them. But you dont need them at all to enjoy the game.
Basically these are all enhancing or convinience items, like increased XP, higher dmg, potions for higher HP, defense, passports to main cities, keys to open chests that drop from mobs, resurrection orbs etc.
The good thing is, you can trade these items in game, so you can buy Chantra items for in game gold off other players. So even if you dont purchase credits from Codemasters, you can still get your hands on the items from players selling them.
Here are a few screenshots.....
First is of our guild fighting for a leveling spot ....this happens alot over the higher level spots so you might have to fight over it to keep it. This is no carebear game so it's good to be in a good guild where you can get backup when needed.
<img src="http://www.hellbilly.net/archlord/grindspot2.jpg" border="0" alt="IPB Image" />
This is from our first Castle Siege where we attack a castle to gain control over it, dont have any screens from the action itself as i was too busy there, but here is after we gained onwership.

<img src="http://www.hellbilly.net/archlord/first_castle2.jpg" border="0" alt="IPB Image" />
And here we are a week later defending our castle from other guilds....sure enough we kicked butt and still own our castle. We have to defend it every week.
<img src="http://www.hellbilly.net/archlord/siege_defend.jpg" border="0" alt="IPB Image" />
I'll see if i can find some more cool screenshots. I also apologize if they are too blurry, they are resized from 1600x1200 to 800x600
Fun.
I like your wings, how high of a level do you have to be to get them?

Lvl 1.
They are a Chantra item that increases your movement speed by 10%.
if a korean dog empties his bowels, he "has an Archlord".

Tabula Rasa, Huxley, The Agency, Pirates of the Burning Sea, City of Heroes, Stargate Worlds, City of Villains, The Matrix Online, Star Wars: Galaxies, and plenty of other MMOs aren't fantasy. You just gotta look for 'em.

I lol'd and I don't know why.
I just started playing it, and i must say i really enjoy it, i'm level 13-14 atm and i'm on the burmhart server (or what it was called <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />) My ingame name is Nure so feel free to look me up, i could really need some advice as of what to do at my level, since it feels like i'm running out of quests.
I lol'd and I don't know why.

Because it was funny?
What do you mean, "I laughed and I don't know why"? geez
Downloading it right... <i>meow</i>.
Looks cool, and I loves me some world PvP. Plus, it's free?

As free as it gets.
It's open PVP after lvl 15. Only safe areas are inside towns and cities so you are never safe when questing or leveling or just admiring the view.
There are penalties though so be warned. If you are first attacker you get a purple skull beside your name for 20 minutes and the person that you killed can bounty your for gold and when you are killed with a bounty on you, you will lose 10% experience. Which of course is nothing at low levels, but at level 70+ it's a couple of hours grind.
Also if you kill someone more then 4 levels lower then you, you get a villain point, collect 40 or more of these and you go rogue and lose ability to party and get killed by guards at town entrances.
Of course, if you see a player with a purple skull, you can kill him at wish, as there are no penalties for killing first attackers, or as we call them, "skulled" players.
But there are always ways to go around certain things in this game <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink-fix.gif" />
I was excited.
I was disappointed by no widescreen resolution, but whatever.
I made my character.
I went into the game.
I discovered that while running is client side, turning is server side.
I quit.
I uninstall.
Also, Quaunaut, how does this running/turning work out?
Comparing to WoW, I can refer to that.
kind of like if you were playing NS on a REALLY laggy server. only way around it is to use the mouse for movement, but that went out ages ago <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />
i had a go at it as well but i didn't like the feel of it.
but you cant really complain about a free game <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />
<edit> grammar is the worse <edit>
And the whole thing seems like a quest grind, correct me if I'm wrong.
And it crashed twice on me.
point and click in the game is better than the wasd, but the pathfinding practically doesn't exist. A point and click is just a straight trip to where you click, it gets caught if there's something in the way.

WoW is a quest grind and the kids seem to like that =p
edit1: And WoW at least has something other than kill this many that. (though that is the majority of WoW quests too)
Another edit: And it really seems that the economy is specifically set up to push you to use the real cash store. I don't blame them for that, that's the business model, but it makes things less fun for me.
You want good gear, you need to pay for it, or get lucky looting it for yourself or loot something awesome for another class that sells for millions.
And yeah you either grind through quests or by killing monsters or both. And thats pretty standard when regarding MMO's. The quest and story lines arent very good but then again this is a PVP and GVG game and the RPG aspect is secondary.
I am fully aware that this isnt a game for everyone, but at least give it more then 10 minutes and interact with people and join a guild. It is really fun.
I'll be on tonight (GMT) so anyone wishing to learn to PVP or grind quickly contact me in #naturalselection or whisper Hellbilly in game. When you learn to pwn other people in PVP the game really starts to get fun.
