I shall henceforth give only criticism which is constructive.
I realise that what I like is not always what everyone else likes.
I understand that people are still learning, and there are many paths to greatness.

Sometimes I really like simple backgrounds, such as this one... those tricked out photoshop backgrounds can really get old sometimes

Ok i enjoy constructive criticism, but saying that i did very little work is just rude. I spent a lot of time putting all that together. Sure I may not be a 3dmax master or something like that but seriously, I made this with good intentions. I had to smoothen all the edges, contrast, and lighting to make it all fit together. I agree with some of your points but, the theory of natural selection as you call it was composed by Charles Darwin, famous explorer, if anyone doesn't know. He's been dead for a very very long time and I feel that anyone who would like to research that quote could do so on their own time to figure out who said it. otherwise please don't be so negative I didn't ask to be bashed I mearly asked for help.

And as for what otto said, thanks man that's really what I was going for. I also hate those big flashy photoshop bg's that everyone always brags about. With this piece I'm just trying to stay as simple and minimilistic as possible. thanks dude.

If you can't take criticism of any kind then dont post your work, its is simple and it makes it even more simple since you used others work in it.. im not trying to make you feel like crap or put your work down, but ogrinality is key in any kind of art

Umm deadly freeze have you ever heard of something called a "collage"? Websters dictionary defines it as: "A work, such as a literary piece, composed of both borrowed and original material." which is exactly what I've done. Obviously I'm not talented enough to make such drawings as found in the concept art, but I decided to use them as a tribute to the hard work of the people who created this very innovative and exciting game. Also, as I've said before I enjoy critisism, but telling an artist that one of his pieces looks like it took little or no effort shouldn't be justified as "constructive critisism" which is clearly what I asked for, it's just plain rude and offensive. In short, I don't tolerate negative comments about art in general, because anything can be considered good art, it just depends on your point of view. If you don't enjoy my art I'd rather hear it in a polite manner and in ways to help me improve, not just plain outright unjustified judgments on how or why I make my art how it is. Thank you.

Looking good. I love the 'softness' of the hive. Just a point, if you use a paintbrush eraser with a low opacity, you can make things like the Marines smoke fade onto the background nicer by playing around a bit. Or you could draw a selection, and feather it.

Also, from a totally aesthetic point of view, I think the text would be better if it had double line spacing removed, so that it was a consistently spaced block of lines.

Keep going though. I am a great fan of simplicity, but sometimes it can be harder than just throwing a load of things onto a page. Enough passion always wins through though, so do not be discouraged.

See? now is that so hard? Fam you're a really nice guy and a great example for these people to live by. That's the sort of feed back I was hoping for considering I'm not that great at art, I thought some of you guys could help me improve on that and realize that I have to start small in order to get better. I ain't no Picasso . Great thanks to you ma man!

Its actually not that bad, i like the idea, it just needs a little shape around the edges, but im sure as you learn more, you will make nice pieces...the tallent is there, just need to learn to master it eh?

Just a suggestion about the bg text. Can it be less repetitive ? Else, it's perfect to me.

I like it, but as I've seen so much un-constructive criticism, I'll try to give you some constructive one...

-The darwin-text in the background is just great, but since he lived a long time ago, you may try a older font/script

-The Hive (beside the already mentioned masking/transparency) would fit better (in my Opinion) in the upper right corner. This way you would also avoind the problem with the suddenly ending arms/tentacles

-The Lightning on the Frontiersman and that on the hive are different. I've never cared much about lightning, but here you could try to apply a filter->render->lightning (if you use PhotoShop) to the hive and try to give it some left-side-lightning...

That's all I could find, and people who thing collages/wallpapers aren't much work are just wrong. Not everyone has those leet drawing-skills and some people just don't have a scanner or a graphic-tablett to show their leet drawing-skills.

eh, I like it, and there was one thing I have to add

You get the same problem with the marines smoke that you get with the hives arms (just ending)

don't know how to fix it(was thinking if you could ad in some sort of finish to the smoke so that it sorta tapers out instead od just dyeing), but thats my one thing

Ok, ok I really enjoy the feedback on the background and I've made a better version to fit most of your needs. If you think anything else should change, feel free to let me know I'll try to get right on it thanks guys, there's the new version...

fam = win
about the wallpaper....
I don't know if my desktop is *really* dark, but I can't seem to see the Darwin text (in the first pic you posted)
Maybe it's a good idea to do 'themed' wallpapers.
one with the marine facing left and one with the hive.
Of course this is completely up to you.

I think you are doing a great job, and I advise you to keep trying if things don't work out the way you want them to.

Or something.
