Still the best

Can't believe after all these years a mod for the ancient HL1 engine is still the best online experience to be had!

Just had a few games this weekend after more than a year away, and none of the soulless multi million dollar shooters that keep being pumped out come close to the concentrated awesomeness of a tense game of NS with 2 balanced and capable teams. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />

If Flayra gets NS 2 right he's going to have a truly massive hit on his hands.

    I agree!

Sometimes I feel like a dinosaur because all of the games I play are many years old on the PC or PS2...then I realize that they're still a lot better than half the ######e my computer can't run and the PS3 doesn't have. Plus I'm still pretty good at NS, considering I've been playing it for so many years.

Three cheers for great HL mods!

Well since Flayra got NS1 to be such a great game it gives me confidence that NS2 should be somewhere on the level with NS1. That is unless something drastic happens to NS2 like no commander mode, in which case I will become sad and play NS1 rather than NS2.

ns is the best because it was created, developed, playtested and influenced by the best. a large majority of nsplayers are already among the most experienced and knowledgeable gamers when compared to the internet gaming community as a whole. the quality of NS as a game reflects the quality of its players.

Mostly true. It has the best of the best and the worst of the worst. Never have I played a game with pubbers as stupid/clueless/bad as some of the ones in NS.

Depends on what you mean. If you consider the ratio of doorknob players to average players you can easily say that there are alot more average players than doorknob players and most of the doorknob players populate the big servers like BAD and G4B2S anyway. Even if some might argue that "NS is filled with f***ing s*** players" it really isn't, it just its much easier to see the effects of a doorknob player in NS than in other FPS games.

However the low number of nub players is counter balanced by a very small population of clanners and a pretty small number of highly skilled players (I can count about 3 "pro" pub servers similar to TG + a small clan community).

To sum up the above, I would say that:

15 - 25% of players are doorknob nubs: They don't listen to teammates, don't know why something is happening, cannot respond to important notices within reasonable time.

35 - 40% of players are average: They know what they are doing and what's happening, even if they can't really ambush or kill. They can respond to important notices somewhat effectively and listen to commander at least half of the time.

30 - 35% of players are above average/good: They know what they are doing, they generally know when to fight and when to fright, they can kill and ambush pretty effectively. They can respond to important notices very effectively, know how to prioritize multiple objectives somewhat effectively and listen to the commander/field commanders.

10% of players are highly skilled. They can get very good K:D ratios, are very in tune with things he can use to his advantage (like cannon fodder skulks) and can make correct conclusions and reactions with less than normal info (like knowing how close a skulk is to a corner and decide to throw a grenade at the correct time and direction). They always respond to important notices effectively, very good at prioritizing objectives and always listen to any commanders.

So in general I agree partially with hawthorne in player skill, however it was exacerrated a bit. Thing is that player attitudes are a different story, but somewhat follow the numbers above.
