The NS mapping forum is for NS-specific mapping questions/comments, not general mapping questions. That is what Valve-ERC is for.
I recommend using the search button on theValve-ERC Forums for mapping questions.
As for the blob -- all I can think of is the particle system velocty/generation shape, in which case you should check out Greedo's Particle-System Guide
Again, please do not post questions about general HL mapping on the NS forums, only NS-specific (like questions about NS entities). Also, try searching (there is a search button in the top-right corner of the page) for topics, to make sure they have not been asked before. [EDIT -- in response to ken's questions, I have no problem with answering advanced editing questions, or even some simple ones. I generally like to help people, but the forum guidelines *do* say that valve-erc is the place for general mapping questions...]

Though does anyone here have a problem with someone asking a more advanced, not so basic, editing question here? Even if it's not entirely NS specific...
Just thought I'd see, as there have been a few times I wanted to ask all the skilled mappers on here a question or two about some of the more involved matters...
I, personally, would just rather not see a lot of basic beginner questions here. Not that I don't like to help out... It's just not the place for it.
Anyway Lazarus, make sure the wires are a func_wall set at Solid 255.
To make that more specific like Ken said make it into a Func_wall then go to rendermode and click on solid then go to fxamount put in 255 that should make the 'black' bits disapear
