<div class="IPBDescription">aliens are bacteria after all</div>What if, instead of becoming transparent, alien "disassembles" itself becomeing a heap of raw bacteria that looks like normal DI. This makes it virtually invisible on normal infestation and it looks less threatening on a clear wall/floor/ceiling. Khaara needs some time to disassemble itself and assemble back and is vulnerable during the process (maybe even more vulnerable then normal). After that it just lies there, watches and waits for a marine to walk by. It is easily killed by flamethrower but (maybe) somewhat resistant to bullets. Attacking does _not_ immediately trigger the process of assembling, so you can't just fire one bullet into "that suspicious pile in the corner" to see if it's dangerous or just a random patch of infestation.
Options:
= Don't know if an alien should be able to move while in this state, like normal DI but ?faster?.
(maybe it's the Onos' only way to wallclimb instead of using the ladder)
(maybe only mobile when on normal DI and not on the clear floor).
= Don't cnow if normal DI should grow out from the disassembled alien like from normal DI and remain in place after he leaves, creating a new patch for DI to grow from.
Problems:
= This ability cannot be automatically activated like cloak, because it needs clever usage (a seperate button is necessary)
= Radar detection is unlikely, because how would it tell it from normal DI, with being basically just the same bacteria and all.
Balance:
- It is less useful because you can't just bite marine's head off and need to assemble first.
- It is easier to see then cloak.
+ Being seen does not mean you will be attacked. Being attacked does not mean your disguise will be blown.
+ I think radar mustn't detect it.
Questions:
? Should it be an upgrade at all, or shold it be an ability like flashlight?
? how would a bigger lifeform like onos look after disassembling? Like a big blob or like a wide splatt? Maybe onos can't use it because it's too big and complex.
I need your comments! NS2 needs our ideas!

Now it would become very interesting if the Di scaled in modeling, saying 5-6 different sizes (story line excuse being DI creeps through the wall). Than we have a possibility here.
i think you pretty much covered why its such a bad idea. it wouldnt take some time to go from a blob back into a solid lifeform, reducing any alien's chance of quick ambush attacks.
plus i dont want to see a fade or onos turn into a pile of sludge, then turn back, it would look stupid.
maybe if an alien dies the corpse could sort of liquify, but thats it.
you leave the flashlight of peace alone!

lol, a little white flag should come out from the back of that marines armor when having it on. I'm sure somebody will make a mod like that <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" />
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
That's a good idea.

Addendum:
If this effect was artistically cool and bad***, then how about adding it to redemption. Think about how cool that'd be. Onos taking massive fire and marines think they have it when suddenly the onos redeems, evaporating into an ethereal mass which vanishes before your eyes. *woosh* You have to admit that'd be cool.

Dead aliens becoming DI = YES vote!
Maybe being able to move through the DI as an alien is a better idea, and maybe marines can't see you or just find it hard to see you, maybe? Then as a skulk you could still jump out of the DI and get some kills.
The point of this isn't to give the aliens an ability, it's to increase the environmental danger-level of dynamically-infested areas. Without this a marine knows for a fact that the DI itself won't hurt him. With this on ANY patch of infestation could kill him without notice.
It increases the atmosphere of the game, and may sometimes help the alien team.
Also: I agree that an onos becoming DI might look a tad silly, but I like the idea for skulks, as it gives them a new *class* feature that further differentiates gameplay.

This is exactly what I would say if I was better at turning my thoughts into words.
what u think?
hm maybe it could be used to deal with the spawn camping issue the other topic is covering. when you are "respawning" you could move your view through the infestation and choose the place you want to pop out from ;d shouldnt be too hard to do ? lol then we have 'dynamic spawns' not only infestation itself ;p
what u think?
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
but what if the spawn camping marines have already flamethrower'ed all of the dynamic infestation in the hive area? you'd be a gooey blob crawling around on a blank floor, which would give away your respawn position

if they managed to destroy all the infestation in the hive room its probably already a game end/hive death as the skulks didnt manage to take them out having the advantage of poping just onto their heads on spawn. ok still if rines ninja-entered the hive and flamed all the infestation by surprise it wouldnt work, but maybe, the thick creep around the hive is not to completly burn in a short time, maybe...
