<div class="IPBDescription">Aaaahhh</div>Hey,

I was wondering are you allowed to create maps on the existing Half Life 2 config for Hammer Editor,
and this will work in the NS2 environment.

It should probably be more or less easy to get a HL2 Hammer map to work as an NS2 Hammer map, but since we have no idea what the gameplay is going to be like, and there are no textures or props to work with, it would be inadvisable to do much work right now. We don't know if there will still be 3 hives, or even if there are hive rooms at all, or if there is still just one marine start, and so on. Just be patient and wait for the NS2 tech release. In the meantime you could sketch out visuals that you want to recreate once you have the props and textures; those aren't gameplay dependant so you should be fine.

no i havent, but despite people not telling me to, ive started a NS2 map, however I would be willing for someone who is good at textures to takeover from this, but only when the guidelines come out so I can make adjustments to the map.

    <img src="http://img515.imageshack.us/img515/9459/untitledey1.jpg" border="0" alt="IPB Image" /> (train station,cart, concept)
    <img src="http://img161.imageshack.us/img161/1930/untitledcp1.jpg" border="0" alt="IPB Image" /> (engine room??) hard to see - sorry.

It may look basic, but i only started yesterday.

There is a way to get the NS1 maps into Source Engine Hammer Editor, but since the converter puts the dev_measuregeneric texture everywhere, we won't have the original texturing. I managed to decompile and load ns_eclipse in hammer editor.

texturing isnt that hard - check out a few tutorials @ interlopers.net - they have some video ones which are nice and easy <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />
i'd say texturing is quite easy if you have the right textures specific theme. The texture tool does most of the work for you in regards to alignment.

Luke Ahearn - Game Textures. A worthwhile investment.

Also from the screenshot it looks like your making a giant room or map , and from the current screenshot it doesnt look like it would even compile - try to make a small section and then compile it (without errors) and test it in the game.
It will save you a lot of hassle doing things one at a time.

Just imagine how you will feel if you make a big map and then when you go to compile / run it - and you get a error and your map won't work. you will then have to go through the entire map to try and figure out where your error is.

make a small room, with a window, a door, etc and texture it, add some lights and compile it

Just for all the mappers looking at this: Alt-p is a good place to start when problem finding.
