<div class="IPBDescription">NS Group</div><a href="http://www.steampowered.com/v/index.php?area=game&AppId=7200&cc=CA" target="_blank">Trackmania: United</a> just came out on Steam and it allows you to make groups in the game (can compete with, play with, etc. Kinda like Steam friends). If anyone besides Tekdude and I bought said game, I made a NS group called "Natural Selection"

user: thenubs
pass: whoplayns

is what one would need to join it if they so wished.

    This is Track Mania: United.

Not really clear on what 30 USD gets you...

Trackmania: United includes everything from Trackmania, Trackmania: Sunrise, and Trackmania: Nations. It then takes that content and basically doubles it. Trackmania is all about high speed, ridiculous car driving with lots of jumps. There is something like 7 different driving environments, each having a unique car which handles differently (very, very differently) You can role solo against the clock or go online and race others. In solo racing, there are not just 'go as fast as you can' modes, there is modes where the track is very hard to navigate (see: massssssive jumps) and you must just try and finish it falling off as few times as possible.

The races win you 'coppers' (in game money), which you can spend on things like new solo maps, car skins and so forth. There is also State/Nation and Worldwide rankings of all the players.

Finally, the ingame track editor is very easy to use. Basically every single server has their own unique tracks, which update all the time as people submit more. You could play for a week straight and never do the same race, literally.

    Does it still have Starforce?

i tried to install the original one (the one that costs zero monies) and i can't get past the bit where you enter your name. it appears that it has zero wait time on key repeats making it unpossible to enter anything.

Supposedly, Trachmania: United doesn't install the Starforce driver. Supposedly, it only uses some Starforce code internally for key validation. Supposedly.

However, all the older versions still have it. Even the free one as far as I know. Yes, copy protection on a free game.

    Correction:
Incredibly intrusive and EVIL copy protection on a free game.

Can some one who has downloaded TM:U let us know if you can still use virtual optical drives?

yes, it has starforce. No, it does not have the super evil version. The version with it is basically their punkbuster/vac version. No drivers are installed. And yes Thansal, all my virtual drive software is still running fine <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />

    starforce
    <!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
There are ways to make starforce, ahem, ignore certain drives btw.

There wouldn't even be a reason to have a Starforce version that meddles with drives in any way on the Steam version of TM:U. Not like you have a key disc.

Steam has starfoce but it doesn't have any of the starforce drivers that have negative effects, that's an official statement

I checked before I installed it, and I didn't have the drivers. I checked aftewards, and I don't have the drivers. Seems to be going good to me.

    1. pc driving wheels are rare as rocking horse s*** (in the UK anyway); and you're at a huge disadvantage without one.

    2. starforce.

Point two has been rebuffed. Unless you're worried about money going to the creators of that hell-spawn. The version that TM:U uses is harmless.
