If I had been drinking coffee at the time of reading that, it probably would now be on my computer screen. This does not bode well for my intent to upgrade using money earned from my minimum-wage slave labor job...

It's absolutely nutty to ever buy best-of-the-best parts. Those exist simply to fleece tech enthusiasts with too much disposable income. It is far more economically sound to purchase the next tier down or to wait for a new tier to come out and then buy the uber card once its price has plummetted.

I agree completely with TychoCelchuuu. I am that idiot with too much disposable income. But also it was only $100 more than the GT and had a very large performance leap

Same. It just feels nice to be top of the line every once in a while. That, and you're voting the tech war with your $.

Fair enough. Not to mention upgrading is a pain in the ass. I just hate reformatting my computer, because I do it more often than anybody should, already, and it takes forever to reinstall everything. Then again, with a faster computer it might install faster.

Looks like next time I upgrade I'm storing my hardest-to-find files and biggest stuff on my father's hard drives.

Nice system doom. Here's some pics from my recent upgrade:

    http://picasaweb.google.com/harry.walsh/PC

It is powerful, and reasonably silent. ( silent enough that my gf has turned it off by accident twice, she's used to my old PC which sounds like a wind tunnel ).

Hot mozzles. You could've gotten an Xbox 360 and PS3 with that money (talking about your grand total) and upgraded next year... You must roll on some fat wads, or whatever they say that means damn, dude, that's a lot of money. Personally I would've taken a slice off of that system and spread the money out, but then, I don't know your financial situation so maybe this was just spare change, and I'm on the poor end of society, and you drive a Benz and have a guy you pay to kick in the shins when you get upset.

On another note, do you dual boot? Or is it a Windows rig? And what exactly was your motivation in upgrading? I know you get better performance and all that, but what did you need it or want it for specifically?

Well, first let me re-iterate what TychoCelchuuu said, because it's true. I am that idiot with too much disposable income.

I already have a 360, and no interest in the PS3 (until MGS4 comes out at least). I needed to upgrade because I hadn't upgraded since DOOM 3 came out, and so I could no longer run newer games like Supreme Commander, LOTRO, STALKER, or ArmA. And no way could I run ET:QW or Crysis when they come out.

So I had to upgrade to continue gaming. And since this is my first upgrade since graduating college and getting a full time job, and thus had more money, I wanted to go balls out like I always wanted to in the past, but never had the opportunity to do. Also I never really spent my Christmas bonus last year, or my tax refund this year. Those pretty much paid for this upgrade.

That being said, yes it was a foolish thing to do to spend that kind of money. Would I do it again? Probably not. But am I glad I did it? Oh yeah. STALKER looks sex. :D

That was all I needed to know.

Now to copy all your stuff and put it into a new case. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" />
