Fade p0rtal gun

<div class="IPBDescription">alternate blink</div>Now that i've overcome my fear of being MSPAINTED i've decided it might be a good idea if the fade had a different type of blink.
It's almost a combination original blink from 1.04 which was a true teleport and the new blink which is more of a leap.

<b>I'm going to assume that everyone has heard of portal for hl2 - well what if the fade was able to open up portals as if it using the gun from portal. The trick being that only that 1 player woulud be able to see and use their own portals.
This would give the impression to anyone watching that the fade is simply walking in and out of walls, floors and cielings.</b>


You could even speed up the fades normal walk speed if this was to replace the leap/blink.

Obviously Acid rocket would not shoot thru the portal as this would be a bit of hax.

I think this could if done right really satisfy both groups of people, those who want old blink and those who want new blink. blinkety blink blink.



perhaps even acid rocket could be replaced with acid grenade so that the fade can blink in drop a few acid grenades and blink out again.

    Actually I had this idea before and came to the same conclusion as Radix:

    I think it would be more usefull as a weapon of a support class as I mentioned in a later post:

    This would give aliens a kinda like phasegate, but only temporary. Its short duration and range should balance it out aswell as the ability of scanner sweep to counter/destroy it.

    Although it sounds cool, combat would be reduced to:

    See marines,
    Fire portal gun on wall behind marines.
    Fire portal gun at own feet.
    Fall through the floor
    Emerge behind marines
    Kill marines.

    Besides looking strange (fade falling through the floor) it would certainly be too unusual to use. It just doesnt seem intuitive enough.

    Thats why I am for replacing blink by a 3 ssecond 100% invisibility, combined with a 50% speed increase while beeing invisible. (Invisibility is lost when attacking)

    This whole idea would actually reduce the fades ability to move around quickly, which is its main defense against weapons. This sounds like it needs to either be incorperated through the marines (daddy likes) or a totally new alien class.

    Hrmm... If it was to become a blink replacement, then it could be done so that firing "blink" could only create an exit portal, and the fade would be immediately shunted through to it.

    The visual effect would be of the fade suddenly disappearing and then stepping out of a nearby wall with just one click. This would conform to the original story behind the fade's blink, where marines reported that fades seemed to be able to walk through walls with it.

    EDIT: It would basically work just like the 1.04 blink, except using the portal mechanics to avoid all the bugs that came with the 1.04 blink.

    I like blink how it is, that would just make fades more of gods if they blink disappear and appear behind them lol

    Uh, that's how blink used to work, and fades were <i>far</i> less god-like back then. Currently, blink allows you to do a flying bullet-dodging jesus impression while you pretend to be an over-sized lerk, it's really not a unique movement mode as it stands.

    How to fix the fade:

    Halve HP and Armor
    Double walking speed
    Increase swipe to 140 damage and halve its rate of fire
    Blink forms an exit portal that you step out of

    NOW you have a ninja assassin!

    exept with focus 140 damage kills with level 3 armor =P and doubling the wakling speed was patch 3.1 which....

    I do think the use of portal technology should be taken advantage of in NS2. Having it be on the fade.....not so much. The fade should do something more than be a bigger meaner lerk, but crazy portal gun doesn't come off as a good idea.
    Gorge with portal gun, now that I can get behind. Like maybe having a portal set up so rines walk over the floor, only to tele over a bottomless pit. Fun for all!
