Probably my all time favourite Youtube clip. Really fascinating.

I really wonder if that poor buffalo will survive though after being bitten all over the place like that :[

Nature is awesome. I feel sorry for the lions though. Just trying to eat and they have to deal with a bunch of crocodiles and a freaking mob of buffalo.

That's incredible. Even more impressive is that he didn't sell exclusive rights to the video to a nature documentary show. Thad video would be worth a mint.

Maybe. The filming is not exactly professional. No real tele lens, far too shaky.

Damn I was just waiting for the croc to pull down one of the lions that was already completely in the water ;p

This reminds me of EVE or WoW where on group of ppl would be ganking, then the gankees would get backup.

Hahaha...nature is just like a MMORPG!

Edit: Or more like Ultima Online! (Phur reminded me)

Wow, that almost have to be staged by a bunch of guys in lions/croc/buffalo-costumes <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" /> Anyway, this video proves the animal kingdom is retarded, why did those 3 buffalo walk straight up to a bunch of lions with a kid buffalo and think they could get away with it? :/

Yeah seriously, think of all the grass's lives the lions save when they kill a buffalo. Dam plant murdering vegetarians <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />

But yeah, this video is pretty amazing. I wonder if the calf survived or if it died from wounds later.

Yeah they're tough, but it WAS being bitten by a whole pack of lions and a crocodile...

It managed to walk off, by the looks of it without even a limp. Which is kind of strange. I thought lions went straight for the neck, they really messed that kill up (even with all the goings on they had time to get its throat).

    Wow. That is amazing.

To think it looked like the buffalo were only giving those big cats a warning. Imagine if they decided to charge the remaining few down and in the water together as a collective? The crocs would have been in for a feast!

Yeah I always thought they went for the neck first too, concuss if not kill the victim on sight to make it easier to devour. Maybe these were only hunting for sport? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />

The lions could totally have cut' a better deal with the buffalos. They should have exploited the fact that they had a hostage. They should have asked for a closed truck.
  • AldarisAldaris Join Date: 2002-03-25 Member: 351Members, Constellation
I assume given the fact that it landed in the water, it took all of them to drag it out, the crocs spooking them, and the horde of buffalo incoming, never gave them chance to actually kill it.

Lions don't evicerate like many think, their bites don't kill. Almost all big cats kill by suffocation. They bite the neck yes, but the prey does not bleed to death. Rather, their throat is crushed by the massive jaws of their attacker and they suffocate to death. So, for a lion to miss the bite to the neck would also mean that the calf is probably still alive.

    So.... They charge Spartan style?

I would be impressed if the calf doesn't bite it from disease, with all the wounds it must have suffered.

I think some of you might like these as well:
